Celebrating its ninth annual Dallas walk, NAMI (National Alliance on Mental lllness) will bring walkers of all ages and backgrounds to Fair Park on Saturday, May 10th. Honorary Chair Mayor Mike Rawlings of Dallas will kick off the 5K walk which starts at 9:00 am on Saturday, May 10, 2014 in Fair Park. NAMI Dallas provides mental health programs in the Dallas/Ft. Worth community free of charge.

“NAMIWalks brings mental illness into the open and focuses on recovery,” said Marsha Rodgers, Interim Executive Director of NAMI Dallas. Rodgers adds, “Our workshops help keep family safety nets in place and reduce the burden on an already overwhelmed local mental health-care delivery system. The goal of this walk is to raise money so that we can help even more families in 2014.”
NAMIWalks, the largest mental health education and fundraising effort in the nation, brings together thousands of individuals in more than 84 communities across the nation to celebrate recovery, honor those who have lost their lives to mental illness, help raise funds, erase the stigma and promote awareness. Registration for the Dallas event begins at 7:00 a.m. in Fair Park with the walk starting at 9:00 a.m. There is no registration walk fee for participants. Companies, organizations and families are encouraged to organize teams of walkers, made up of employees, organization members, relatives and friends.
Proceeds from the walk will fund NAMI programs in Dallas, including support, education, awareness and advocacy for families, individuals, educators and first responders.
To register, become a sponsor or join a team, interested individuals may visit online at NAMI Walks Dallas or contact walk manager, John Dornheim, at johnd@namidallas.org or call 214-335-8334.
