Signs of Humanity in Dallas

Signs of Humanity is a documentary that explores the inter-related themes of Home, Homelessness, Compassion and Humanity.  Artist and SMU Professor Willie Baronet has purchased more than 1,000 homeless signs over the past 22 years and he uses this collection to create installations to raise awareness about homelessness.  During the month of July, 2014, Willie and three filmmakers drove across the country, interviewing more than 100 people on the streets and purchasing over 275 signs.   Signs of Humanity is a documentary about that trip.  I saw this film a few months ago at the 2016 Dallas International Film Festival and felt how it moved the entire audience.  Apparently others across the nation feel the same way as the film has already received the following recognition:

National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week is held each year the week before Thanksgiving. This is a time for us to reflect on what we are thankful for, a perfect time to share our compassion with our neighbors who are experiencing homelessness.  Compassion begins with gaining knowledge on the subject.  Willie Baronet, Tim Chumley and Judy Gass have done an excellent job at giving us a panoramic look at homelessness from the beaches of California to the bright lights of New York City.
