After a year of visits to various doctors, neurologists and finally the UCLA Ataxia clinic, Kyle Bryant was diagnosed with Friedreich's ataxia (FA), a degenerative neurological disease that affects one in 50,000 people - making it officially a 'rare disease.' The invisible force that pulled on him for years, one that prevented him from making the baseball team, caused his stumbling at band practice, or falling over his bicycle made sense. But when the doctor said it would shorten his life expectancy, Kyle's world burned. The facts of this new identity contaminated his existence. He faced a continuum that he couldn't change. The following week Kyle bought himself a fire-engine red trike and realized he could go anywhere on it. In Shifting Into High Gear: One Man's Grave Diagnosis and the Epic Bike Ride That Taught Him What Matters, we travel with Kyle on his trike - twice- across the United States.
Meet Kyle on Wednesday, April 3rd at Barnes & Noble located at Preston Royal Shopping Center. We'll gather at 6 pm and be inspired even more to build a thriving hopeful life.
