The magic and excitement of Disney World provided the perfect backdrop for an energy filled performance by the Jesuit Rangerettes on Saturday February 17th. Their elegant and precision dance moves captivated the audience at the Waterside Stage at Disney Springs.  The Rangerettes were fortunate to have been chosen again by the Disney Fine Arts Program to perform this year.

The drill team, comprised of 41 students from Ursuline Academy and under the direction of Linda Coffin and Debra Roth, performed beautifully choreographed dances paired with vibrant music. The song-list included Shake The Room, Freedom, Treasure, and Last Dance. This unique opportunity gave the team an inside look at what it is like to be a professional in the entertainment industry.

Each year the Disney Performing Arts Program receives thousands of applications from vocal, instrumental and dance ensembles from around the world to perform at both the Disneyland Resort in California and the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.  If chosen, they are invited to perform at the resort for an international audience of theme park guests.  Millions of performers have graced the stages of the Disney Parks in the more than 25-year history of the program. This year is the 2nd time the Rangerettes have been selected to perform.

Videos and pictures of the performance can be viewed on our Facebook page.  www.facebook.com/jesuitrangerettes

Currently Courtney Lambert is in the Junior Class of Ursuline Academy of Dallas, with a current semester GPA of 4.0 and is a Junior Lieutenant for the Jesuit Rangerettes.  Courtney performs at half time for the Jesuit Rangerettes and can be seen cheering on her team as they head into the playoffs for the 8th consecutive year.  Courtney started dancing at the age of two.  Her resume boosts an incredible list of academic and dance achievements.  She is a member of the National Honor Society and spends her free time volunteering and being active in school clubs and organizations, volunteering an hour before school every Monday at an elementary school. Courtney is on the Ursuline Library Advisory Board and also serves as Vice President of the Teen Dwell Club, an organization that helps decorate new homes in low income areas.

One of our very own Rangerettes and Ursuline Academy student, Maggie K, has been accepted in the NSLI-Y program to study Arabic for 7 weeks this summer in Amman, Jordan. Congratulations Maggie on this huge accomplishment.

The National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, provides merit-based scholarships for eligible high school students and recent high school graduates to learn less commonly taught languages in summer and academic-year overseas immersion programs.

NSLI-Y is part of a U.S. government initiative that prepares American citizens to be leaders in a global world. Now more than ever, it is important that Americans have the necessary linguistic skills and cultural knowledge to promote international dialogue and support American engagement abroad. NSLI-Y aims to provide opportunities to American youth that will spark a lifetime interest in foreign languages and cultures. http://www.nsliforyouth.org/

Ursuline Academy commits to educating global leaders focusing on the Ursuline mission through active service, intellectual enrichment, co-curricular programs (locally and abroad), sister school relationships, and other partnerships.

Students engage in a variety of transformative experiences which help them grow in global competence. As they get to know and touch the realities of other cultures, they gain new appreciation for different perspectives and a better understanding of what it means to be a citizen of the world. They also have the opportunity to share a unique sisterhood with students around the globe.

Through educational and cultural exchanges, Ursuline students may travel and meet friends worldwide as well as host visiting sister school students in their own homes. Mission & Heritage experiences are offered by Ursuline and through Ursuline Educational Services and the Diocese of Dallas. Global Studies programs allow students to earn academic credits as well as participate in excursions and cultural activities.
