Edgemere, Dallas’ premier life care senior living community, recently hosted “Award-Winning Tastes” featuring certified sommelier Hayley Hamilton Cogill and her husband Gary Cogill, the renowned Texas-based film critic. The Cogills treated guests to presentations pairing fine wines with some of Hollywood’s greatest movies. The duo will hold another event at the community later this month.

“The Cogills are so popular that we are holding the event twice during the month of September,” said John Falldine, managing director of Edgemere. “Our guests have the opportunity to enjoy Hayley’s talent for picking the best vintage to complement Gary’s movie selections. Together, this husband and wife team entertains the audience with a wine-tasting accompanied by Gary’s extensive knowledge of Hollywood personalities as he reviews highlights from select films.” 

During the presentation, the audience samples unique wines from across the country and around the world while watching Cogill’s favorite scenes from movies such as Lawrence of Arabia and To Kill a Mockingbird.  In addition, Gary delights the audience with his stories of interviewing award-winning actors like Robert Redford and Jimmy Stewart.  

“We believe that the pairing concept adds a whole new dimension to watching movies.  We are passionate about fine wine and great motion pictures, which is the reason we combined our vocations to create this event,” said the Cogills.

A noted wine specialist, Hayley Hamilton Cogill is a well-known travel writer, consultant and educator.  She has been a weekly contributor to Taste Texas and Broadcast, two Dallas-based life-style television shows.  She is a member of the Dallas chapter of Les Dames d ’Escoffier International, the Society of Wine Educators and the International Food, Wine and Travel Writers Association.  Hayley also serves as a guest judge for wine and cooking contests, in addition to her ability to create wine lists for some of the finest restaurants in North Texas and other clients.

As a popular film critic, Gary Cogill is the producer and managing partner of Lascaux Films who produced Words and Pictures starring Clive Owen and Juliette Binoche, and Life Itself starring Morgan Freeman and Diane Keaton.  In 24 years as a film critic for WFAA-TV (ABC), the Emmy award-winning journalist conducted more than 20,000 interviews, including Robert DeNiro, Meryl Streep, Steven Spielberg, and Clint Eastwood.  He has also hosted “Evenings With” John Travolta, Robert Duvall, David Mamet, David Sondheim and more.
