Dallas Can Academies' 22nd Annual Motherhood Luncheon Honoring Natalie Jenkins Sorrell

Dallas Can Academies will celebrate businesswoman Natalie Jenkins Sorrell at their 22nd Annual Motherhood Luncheon, Friday, May 8 at 11 a.m., at The Renaissance Dallas Hotel. Sorrell, the Director of Investments for the Employees’ Retirement Fund (ERF) of the City of Dallas, and mother of two young children, will be honored for her commitment to education, family, and community. The event benefits the students of the five Dallas Can Academy campuses and recognizes mothers who are volunteers and champions of children in the Dallas area.

Natalie Sorrell’s illustrious career in investment banking brought her to Dallas in 2006 to join ERF. Most recently, she has led the effort to build the Next Generation Manager Program, allocating ten percent of the Fund to smaller, newer, and/or minority owned investment managers across asset classes.  She was named as one of Dallas Business Journal’s 40 Under Forty and has decidedly left her mark on Dallas banking.

A top graduate of Spelman College and The Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania, Sorrell is an esteemed example of the importance of education. She maintains her commitment to learning with her service as Chair of the Investment Committee of Big Thought, a Dallas-based non-profit organization focused on creative learning solutions for at-risk youth. Further, she is spearheading efforts to educate young minority students in S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering, and math) through her involvement with the Dallas chapter of The Links, Inc.

Dallas Can Academies consist of five tuition-free, public, dropout recovery high schools. They believe providing a strong education to graduate thinkers is the foundation for breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty and illiteracy. Through its parent organization, Texans Can Academies, more than 115,000 students have been given a second chance at life with the opportunity to pursue their dreams.

Fundraiser proceeds will benefit Dallas Can Academies. Individual tickets are $125, and table sponsorships are also available. Contact Reggie Dupard at 214.944.1949, jdupard@texanscan.org, or visit www.texanscan.org/Motherhood/Dallas for more information or to purchase tickets.
