Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas President and CEO Jennifer Sampson and KPMG's Dallas Managing Partner Manny Fernandez celebrate KPMG's Centennial Day of Giving at the Dallas Museum of Art.

The Dallas office of KPMG LLP, the U.S. audit, tax and advisory firm, celebrated its 100th anniversary with a community event called a Day of Giving on Friday, May 8th. Nearly 800 KPMG professionals donated their time to assist various United Way non-profit organizations in need at 24 site locations throughout Dallas.

To help kick-off the event, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings joined nearly 800 KPMG professionals for a pep rally at the Dallas Museum of Art to offer words of encouragement and to thank KPMG. Dallas Managing Partner Manny Fernandez presented a check on behalf of KPMG’s Family for Literacy in the amount of $25,000 to Mayor Rawlings to benefit the “Dallas Mayor’s Summer Reading Program,” which will go towards purchasing 9,000 books.

Also attending was Jennifer Sampson, President and CEO of United Way of Metropolitan Dallas. United Way assisted KPMG with identifying local charities in need of assistance and helped organize activities related to the event.  For over 100 years, KPMG has been committed to the local community and participates annually in a number of fundraising and volunteering campaigns. Last year, the Dallas office raised nearly $750,000 for local charities, and donated over 1,500 hours of volunteer service.  In the last five years, KPMG has raised over $3.5 million to benefit charitable organizations in the Dallas area.

Hearts and Hammers, and the following 10 United Way of Metropolitan Dallas service providers benefitted from KPMG’s Day of Giving event:  Children’s Health, Resource Center, The Salvation Army, Jewish Family Services, Mi Escuelita Preschool, Goodwill Industries, The Senior Source, CitySquare, Nexus Recovery Center, and The Family Place.
