Edgemere retirement community in Dallas welcomed four local authors and a certified sommelier for a special “Read Between the Wines” event earlier this month. The popular Dallas authors, including Nancy Smith, Carolyn Brown, Andrea Alcorn and Sally Blanton, presented their books and insider views of Dallas to the community’s guests.

Hayley Hamilton Cogill, certified sommelier and weekly contributor to The Broadcast and Taste Texas, added to the event. Cogill, a member of Les Dames d’Escoffier International and the Society of Wine Educators, presented some of her favorite wines paired with each book discussion.

“These four authors have enjoyed long and meaningful careers among Dallas’ most influential people during some of our city’s most exciting times,” said John Falldine, managing director of Edgemere. “So many of our residents have their own firsthand stories of the events, people and places they reported on, so it was especially exciting to have them in our community sharing their stories personally.”

Nancy Smith discussed her books “Dallas International with J.R. Ewing: History of Real Dallasites in the Spotlight of ‘Dallas,’ Southfork, and the 1980s Gold Rush” and “Dallas Celebrity in the Glamorous 1980s Era of Ronald and Nancy Reagan.” Carolyn Brown shared photographs from her coffee table book “Dallas: Portrait of a City,” while Andrea Alcorn and Sally Blanton shared recommendations from their book “100 Things to Do in Dallas-Fort Worth Before You Die”
