Dallas Nonprofit Nexus Recovery Center Opens Pop-Up Flower Shop to Spread Mother’s Day Cheer and Raise Funds for Life-Saving Mission

Blooming spring floral bouquets are synonymous with Mother’s Day, making up a quarter of flower sales in the U.S. for the entire year. To honor all the mothers at Nexus Recovery Center, the Auxiliary of Nexus is uniting to establish a Pop-Up Flower Shop with a giveback element. Not only will a special committee of dedicated Auxiliary advocates and Nexus clients curate bountiful, colorful blooms to be sold for Mother’s Day delight, all the proceeds of the bouquets will go straight back to the empowering mission of Nexus.

The Auxiliary members and Nexus clients will gather outdoors Friday, May 7, and be greeted by tables bursting with thousands of flowers of all varieties to handcraft each bouquet. Individuals are able to pre-order their Mother’s Day arrangements on Nexus’ website, and there will also be day of orders in-person at the Pop-Up Flower Shop drive-through experience. Whether the flowers are ordered ahead of time online, or in-person day of, each arrangement must be picked up via drive-through on Nexus’ campus (8733 La Prada Dr, Dallas, TX 75228) on Saturday, May 8 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. In addition to bouquets purchased, individuals may also sponsor a gift basket for a mother currently on campus in the Nexus recovery program, and/or donate to the organization in their mother’s honor.

Prior to the pandemic, the Auxiliary hosted an annual spring luncheon to generate funds and awareness around the mission that offers specialized substance use disorder treatment services to adult women in Dallas. The organization also specializes in the recovery of mothers. Nexus provides treatment living space for moms with up to three children accompanying them on campus: a unique attribute of Nexus’ program and a vital distinction that is instrumental in recovery.  But with precautions still in place, the Auxiliary will host the socially distanced Pop-Up Flower Shop event, where North Texans may purchase arrangements online, drive-through Nexus and pick-up their Mother’s Day arrangements.

“This is one of the most exciting endeavors we’ve initiated as a group of volunteers for Nexus,” Beth Hunter, Community Partner and Volunteer Manager, said. “Not only will the bouquets be elevated and exactly what mom wants, but the social impact element of this Pop-Up Flower Shop is what will really mean the most to mom.”

“Most of us on the Auxiliary are mothers ourselves so we are handpicking exactly what we would want come Mother’s Day morning. We are basically personal shoppers for all those kiddos and significant others out there,” Lauren Gillette, Nexus Auxiliary Advisory Board President. “But truly, all kidding aside, if we’ve learned anything from this past year it’s that we want quality time with our family and we want to make a difference. There’s power in your purchase and any mama’s heart is going to be happy and proud to know her family chose this gift for her.”

The nonprofit celebrates 50 years of helping women pursue their recovery journey this year; a milestone anniversary comes at a time when recovery efforts and treatment services are especially critical due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“What we do every day at Nexus is life-changing and life-saving work,” said Heather Ormand, CEO of Nexus Recovery Center. “This is a beautiful way for the women at Nexus to be celebrated, as well as spend time with the amazing members of our Auxiliary engaged in a fun activity. We’ve served nearly 2,000 women since the pandemic began over a year ago. Every single woman that walks through our doors is someone’s daughter or mother – we are here to help them on their recovery journey and provide their families hope for celebrating Mother’s Days to come together.”
