Renowned pianist Garrick Ohlsson was the guest artist for Dallas Symphony Orchestra League’s A Noteworthy Night on Wednesday, October 13 in the library of Kathy and Harlan Crow. Ohlsson was in Dallas to perform Beethoven’s Emperor with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center. The event was limited to 75 guests for an intimate evening starting with wine and hors d’oeuvres, followed by a brief performance by Ohlsson.
Although Ohlsson won First Prizes at the 1966 Busoni Competition in Italy and the 1968 Montréal Piano Competition, it was his 1970 triumph at the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw, where he won the Gold Medal (and remains the single American to have done so), that brought him worldwide recognition as one of the finest pianists of his generation. Since then he has made nearly a dozen tours of Poland, where he retains immense personal popularity.
Honorary Chairs for the event were Donna and Herb Weitzman, long time patrons of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Event Chair Therese Rourk and DSOL President Venise Stuart greeted guests including Bess and Ted Enloe, Alex and Jacqueline Winslow, Maisie Heiken and Yon Jorden, and Linda and Frank Spina.
A Noteworthy Night is a series of DSOL events held in unique venues with limited attendance, offering a small, intimate experience with featured performers. Two additional events are scheduled in the coming year. The first event on February 2, 2022 will feature DSO Music Director Emeritus, Andrew Litton, and the second on May 25, 2022 will feature Conductor Gemma New and composer Jessie Montgomery.
