Hillcrest HS Honor Student promotes reading at school with her Girl Scouts Gold Award Project

Hillcrest High School Honor Student promotes reading at the school with her Girl Scouts Gold Award Project.

The title of the project is Literacy Awareness Book Walk.

The project consists of painting book spines on the lockers of Hillcrest High School, to encourage and motivate young adults to read books more often. While the students walk the halls of the school, they can learn, talk, and discuss how diverse the world of literature can be and that there is a genre for all people to enjoy.

The main idea of this project is to show students that opening a book open every once in a while is not as bad as it sounds. Each drawing will have a QR Code that will guide the students to the website about the book/author.

The reason for choosing this project is to help brighten the eyes of the students of Hillcrest High School, that there are many books out there that are worth the read. I want young adults my age to know how important it is to open a book, read, for a while, and especially, for fun!

As a reader, active library user, and Anime Club Member; I know how the number of young adult readers has decreased over the last decades. This is why I find that in a High School, spreading Literacy Awareness is a must, to catch them on time. Once they start loving literature, they will continue learning and reading more. I am sure that when they are will experiment with how fun is to read, sometimes, outside their niche, they will aim for more, and become active readers like me!

"We, as young adults, are in charge of our future, the sky is not the limit. When you want something, stay focused and keep working for that goal. The best part is that reading will be by your side in every step of your journey, start reading today!"
