What started as a college project in 2006 for Thomas Sanders soon became a mission–-to capture the images of as many World War II veterans as possible and help share and preserve their stories. Three years and 150 veterans into his quest, Thomas met Belmont Village Senior Living. So moved by his project and the opportunity to honor their residents, Belmont Village commissioned Thomas in 2009 and took him to their communities around the country to photograph the 400+ veterans who called Belmont home. To this day, those resident photographs remain a part of cherished galleries in their Belmont Village communities.

It didn’t take long for Thomas’ work to catch the eye of Welcome Books, a division of Random House. The rest is history. A collection of Thomas’ photos entitled The Last Good War: The Faces and Voices of WWII was published in 2010 and went on to be named Foreword Reviews’ Book of the Year. Please join us as Thomas shares his experiences with these members of the “greatest generation,” along with their stories at this riveting reading.

Copies of The Last Good War: The Faces and Voices of WWII will be available for purchase in the Frontiers of Flight Museum Store following the presentation on Saturday, May 25. Click here for more information.
