White Rock Rowing Triumphant Debut at the World’s Largest Regatta
White Rock Rowing (WRR) Junior Varsity Women and Masters raced in the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta on October 22 in Boston. The HOCR is one of the nation’s premier rowing events, featuring over 11,000 athletes from around the world who compete annually on the winding, highly technical 3-mile course.
WRR Varsity Women’s double partners, Sam Prado and Kaira Lay, finished 8th out of 47 crews in their debut on the Charles. From the onset of the race, the girls established an ambitious pace and skillfully maneuvered around competition from around the nation. By the last 900 meters, they were passing boats that began two minutes before them, securing an impressive TOP 10 FINISH TIME and immediately qualifying an entry in next year’s race.
“It was incredible to see White Rock athletes competing and thriving at the Head of the Charles and next year we will hopefully see more,” said Head Coach Ed Golding.
In addition to the junior women’s double, coach Golding raced in the highly competitive Men’s Masters 8+ with Cambridge Boat Club, bringing home a coveted 4th place medal. Tom Carr, a long-standing member of the White Rock Rowing community, also raced in the Men’s Grand Masters Singles, placing 18th out of 51 entries. The City of Dallas can take pride in the success of these athletes that represent us so well in national competitions.
After receiving 11 team medals in the recent OKC Regatta, WRR continues it’s impressive season in Austin this weekend to compete at the Head of the Colorado and the following weekend in Chattanooga at the Head of the Hooch.
