What to Do With Your Prom Dress After the Big Night

Most girls spend hours picking out their prom dresses. It's a big investment, and even though you only wear it for one night, you want it to be the perfect choice. The question is, what do you do with the dress once prom season is finally over?

Here are a few great ways to repurpose the gown without wasting money or throwing it away.

Sell it online. There are dozens of websites that specialize in helping teen girls sell their formal wear and accessories to new owners. Prom Again, Poshmark, Tradesy, and Material World are just a few of the options you can look into. Not only will you feel good about giving the dress to a new home, but you'll also walk away with a little cash in your pocket.

Donate it to charity. Local churches and non-profits often host drives for prom dresses that are no longer wanted. David's Bridal even has a donation program where they'll give you a free shipping label to send to Becca's Closet, a non-profit.

Hand it off to a friend. There's nothing better than seeing a dress you loved and made memories in go to someone special. Perhaps you can pass the dress down to a sister or younger friend who will attend prom in the coming years. If you have friends who are also looking to get rid of their dresses, host a prom dress swap so everyone gets to snag a new gown.

Alter it for another occasion.
Most prom dresses are a little too formal for the kinds of events you'll attend in college or at work, but if you change up the length or remove some of the bling, you might be able to repurpose it for a future occasion. Waste not, want not, right?

If you know of local prom dress donation centers or resale shops, comment with suggestions!
