Temple Shalom Annual Charity Golf/ Mah Jongg Tournament - Huge Success

The Temple Shalom 17th Annual Golf Tournament, TEES & TILES, was a huge success. Approximately 100 golfers and 30 mah jongg players joined together at the picturesque Clubs of Prestonwood – The Creek, for an afternoon of golf and mah jongg, followed by a special award ceremony and an evening of celebrating and dancing.

As always, the tournament was a day of comradery, competition and of course, comic relief“The Temple Shalom Annual Charity Golf Tournament is a great example of what community building looks like.  To have community partners like the Gary Sinise Foundation and Snowball Express join with us for a day of friendship and fellowship, a day of fundraising and fun-raising, is an incredibly powerful way of bringing a little light and brightness to a world that can seem dark and foreboding. Our incredible volunteers, the committed golfers, the Mah Jongg players and of course the Clubs at Prestonwood all made for a wonderful and memorable day!” exclaimed Rabbi Andrew Paley.

This year’s tournament co-chairs Irv Munn, Irwin Kauffman and James Bier and their committee took this year’s event to the next level. For the first time ever, a mah jongg tournament was added to the schedule. The silent auction, featuring goods and services from businesses in the community, was the biggest yet, and the cocktail/dinner/award ceremony included the band, New Ground who entertained dinner guests with live music. Funds raised this year surpassed 70% more than last year’s event.

Congratulations to our first-place golf team: Don Koski, Jake Range, Tawny Alexander and Adam Rodiguez; and to our first place Mah Jongg team: Lisa Rubin, Sally Rosenberg, Suzanne David, and Debbie Scheinberg.

“Our goal this year was to have more community involvement even from those who do not golf.  By adding Mah Jongg and a live band, we brought people to the event who would not have come in the past.  I am so grateful to the co-chairs, the committee and volunteers for their hours of dedication to this vision. I also want to thank the sponsors, underwriters and participants whose incredible support was integral in achieving our goal of helping the most children.  Just as we all had a fun-filled day, I hope that the funds we raised will put smiles on many children’s faces.  No amount of rain or lightning could dampen that joy“ exclaimed Co-Chair Irv Munn.
