Temple Shalom Announces 2019 Woman of Valor

On Monday, October 15, 2018, Lonna Rae Silverman was named Temple Shalom Sisterhood's 2019 Woman of Valor (WOV). This amazing evening began with Temple Shalom Sisterhood’s Paid Up Dinner prepared by Catering by Larry. Featured speaker Loui Dobin, Executive Director of URJ Greene Family Camp, spoke about the past, present and future of GFC and shared the role that Ilene Greene and her late husband Ed played in founding and continuing to support the camp. During this camp-themed inspired evening, guests reminisced about their days at Greene Family Camp, reconnected with old friends and even sang favorite camp songs.

Staci Mendelsohn,  2018 WOV Honoree, began this year’s announcement speech with the traditional "clues as to the identity of this year's recipient." "She's not originally from Texas, she has a heart of gold and we see her everywhere, spreading joy and kindness throughout our community….” Certainly, Lonna Rae Silverman is deserving of this year's Award. She has dedicated her life to children, spending more than 20 years teaching special education, Hebrew and Judaica classes in Religious School and tutoring math. Lonna Rae is active with the Dallas Jewish War Veterans auxiliary, taught in Temple’s ESL/LIFT program and organized numerous Temple events and celebrations. She was Sisterhood Co-President from 2015-2017 and named Temple Shalom Volunteer of the Year for 2018.

Plans are in the works for Sisterhood's 30th Annual Spring Event/Woman of Valor Celebration to be held on April 7, 2019. For more information, contact Gail Davidson at onekidmama@gmail.com.
