Covenant Logic School students (grades 5-8) spread out across Dallas to serve and surprise surrounding neighbors, businesses and schools.  Students went to Medical City Hospital to serve behind the scenes making blankets for cancer patients, cleaning toys in the kid’s playroom and decorating Valentines for patient trays.  Students also visited several Richardson schools to read with students, give books to students and share music and drama performances with them. Other students visited senior living centers in the area and were able to meet with residents, play games and perform for the residents.

Logic School Director, Brett Tohlen, said, “One of the best parts of Love Thy Neighbor Day was the gift of surprise. With random acts of kindness taking place throughout the day, many students shared their wonder at how God used serendipitous moments to show His love:  a lady waiting for a bus receiving a carnation, a van full of day-laborers receiving a free lunch from the car ahead of them at In-N-Out, Laundromat machines receiving quarters, and even a gentleman receiving the gospel.  Christ taught that ‘it is more blessed to give than to receive’ and students had the opportunities to show in a physical way, an incarnational way, this truth.”

At the end of the day students arrived for the final afternoon assembly to a surprise of their own. Nashville recording artist Sandra McCracken was able to share her gifts as a singer-songwriter and her voice captivated the students and adults alike.  Students, parents, and staff were reminded again that God loved us when we were unlovable, and we now have the opportunity to lavish our neighbor with that same love.  Click HERE to see images from the day.
