Snappy Salads Encourages Community To Recycle Old Electronics

Old computers, cell phones, TV sets and other electronic items, when not properly recycled could leach toxic materials into our air, water, and land.  Don’t let this happen!  Don’t just throw it away.  Instead, bring anything that once ran on electricity to Snappy Salads for recycling on October 25. Snappy Salads offers this service free to the public.

Snappy Salads, the first eco-friendly salad restaurant in Dallas, will recycle all electronic items (anything with an on/off switch) dropped off at any of the following six locations at the times listed:

            Snappy Salads Locations recycling 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

5915 Forest Lane, Dallas, TX, 75230

320 W. Campbell Road, Richardson, TX, 75080

6550 N. MacArthur Blvd, Irving TX 75039

Snappy Salads Locations recycling 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

5930 W. Park Blvd., Plano, TX, 75093

5941 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX, 75206

2175 E. Southlake Blvd, Southlake TX 76092

“I am proud to say that our Spring 2014 Recycling Roundup diverted over seven tons of electronic waste,” said Chris Dahlander, founder and CEO of Snappy Salads.  “My guests believe in this effort as much as I do as evidenced by such a great response in April.  It’s really fulfilling to know that we’re influencing such a positive change in our community,” Dahlander added.

Specific items that can be recycled include: computers, televisions, monitors, laptops, cell phones, VCRs, stereos, copiers, printers, video games, fax machines, calculators, as well as small appliances and batteries.  Based on 2009 figures, the EPA estimates that U.S. consumers purchased more than 438 million electronic devices.  Only 25 percent of this was recycled, with televisions and mobile devices representing the lowest recycling rate.  Electronic waste contains toxic materials, including lead, mercury, and brominated flame-retardants that can contaminate our air, water and land if not properly recycled (http://www.epa.gov/osw/conserve/materials/ecycling/manage.htm ).

Snappy Salads is relying on the expertise of Recycle Revolution, a local Dallas company, to coordinate the recycling of the collected items using the e-Stewards certification program (http://www.e-stewards.org/certification-overview/).

Snappy Salads has become the standard for high-quality salads served quickly in an environmentally friendly manner and earned the first Green Business Certification from the City of Plano, TX in 2013.

Snappy Salads is committed to limiting the negative impact the restaurant makes on the environment through myriad ways.  The salad containers and drink cups all are made from renewable resources; salvaged materials are used for chairs and tables; CFLs and batteries can be recycled every day at all locations.

Snappy Salads has seven locations in the DFW area including Las Colinas, Southlake, Richardson, Plano, Dallas and NorthPark Center.  More is available at www.snappysalads.com.
