Central Members At Wait Until Dark

Following Sunday worship and fellowship, several members of Central Christian Church attended the final performance of “Wait Until Dark” at the Contemporary Theater at 5601 Sears St. in Dallas.

The thriller takes place in a basement apartment in Greenwich Village in the mid 1960s.

Susy Hendrix is a blind housewife who becomes the target of three con-men searching for heroin hidden in a doll, which her husband Sam innocently transported from Canada as a favor to a woman who has since been murdered.

Combining suspense and a little dark comedy, the plot thickened and thickened.

Written by Frederick Knot, the play opened at the Ethyl Barrymore Theater on Broadway in 1966.

In 1967, it was adapted to a movie starring Audrey Hepburn.  In an effort to duplicate the suspense on screen, movie theaters dimmed their lights to their legal limits, then turned off one by one until each light on-screen was shattered, resulting in the theater being plunged into complete darkness.

At today’s play, the intimate Contemporary Theater dimmed their lights to total darkness and with  open flame, e-cigarettes and synthetic smoke virtually put the audience in the Greenwich Village apartment.

Central members enjoyed the experience and look forward to future plays and excursions.

Plans are currently underway to visit the “Gone With the Wind Museum” in Cleburne, Texas as the movie celebrates its 75th anniversary this winter.

Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is located at 4711 Westside Dr. in Dallas.  Sunday worship is at 11 a.m. and all are welcome
