The Legacy Preston Hollow Hosts Special Erev Rosh Hashanah Dinner And Service

The Legacy Preston Hollow senior living community recently hosted an Erev Rosh Hashanah dinner and service for residents and their families along with staff and guests to commemorate this significant time of year. Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, is a time to reflect and pray for a sweet year ahead. Bruce Feldman, a dedicated supporter of The Legacy Senior Communities, Inc., led the service and opened by reminding everyone to let go of mistakes in the past and bring in the new year with hope. The seniors and guests enjoyed apples and honey, which represent hope for sweet things to come. The service following the dinner was filled with prayers, song and celebration.

“We enjoy providing this special meal and Rosh Hashanah services for our residents and guests at The Legacy Preston Hollow,” said Andrea Statman, director of development for The Legacy Senior Communities. “It is a time of personal contemplation and true joy for the residents with their families. We hope everyone who attended was spiritually fulfilled by the experience and left feeling uplifted as we continue observing the High Holidays.”

Residents and their families also came together for traditional Rosh Hashanah services the following day. They included Hebrew prayers, reading responsively from the prayer book, the Torah service and Torah readings, followed by the blowing of the shofar which is a ram’s horn. Everyone looks forward to the blowing of the shofar, which wakes up the senses and helps to welcome in the New Year.

Rosh Hashanah is the celebration of the Jewish New Year, literally meaning “head of the year” in Hebrew. It occurs on the first and second days of Tishri as the period of introspection, which continues for ten days commonly known as the Days of Awe.
