Dallas Architecture Forum, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing public education about architecture, design and the urban environment, is pleased to open its 2014-15 Panel Series with “The Connected City: Next Steps," a Panel Discussion on October 14, moderated by Brent Brown, AIA.
The Dallas Architecture Forum Panels are offered at no charge to both Forum members and to the general public as a public outreach of the Forum. Join us for a cold beverage and lively dialogue at the office of the Dallas Center For Architecture, 1909 Woodall Rogers Freeway, Suite 100, Dallas, TX 75201! This free Dallas Architecture Forum Panel will be held at 6:30 p.m., with an informal reception beginning at 6:15 p.m. No reservations are needed to attend the Panel.
The Connected City Design Challenge was developed to focus on bold design solutions to connect Downtown and Trinity River overcoming the physical, psychological, and economic divide currently existing. Following presentations in the Fall of 2013, The Challenge Jury identified from the body of work their preferred themes and ideas, with special recognition on an overall basis to Stoss + SHoP for their scheme of “Hyper-Density Hyper Landscape”. "The success of the competition and the provocative ideas it generated set the stage for a sustained agenda to reconnect Downtown Dallas to the Trinity River” said Larry Beasley, The Challenge Jury Chair. “It can be done - the creative submissions show many clever solutions - and it must be done. This is a challenge that will truly transform Dallas.”

Brent A. Brown, AIA, is a Dallas architect working daily to balance social, economic, and environmental issues by deploying design to enhance livability for all Dallas’ residents. Through his effort Dallas is re-visioning how it lives, works and plays. In 2005, Mr. Brown founded the buildingcommunity WORKSHOP (bcWORKSHOP), a local non-profit community design resource seeking to improve the livability and viability of communities through the practice of thoughtful design and making. He is also the Founding Director of the City of Dallas’ CityDesign Studio stewarding the urban design vision for the city. By engaging residents, landowners, business owners, investors and community stakeholders, Brent deploys a community-led planning method building shared vision for the city's future. Winner of numerous local and national design awards, he is especially proud to be the 2011 recipient of the Dallas Historical Society Award for Excellence in Humanities for his sensitive work in reconciling and balancing future growth with the interests of existing communities. Brent is a strong advocate for Public Design earning his Bachelor of Environmental Design and Master of Architecture from Texas A & M University.
