It’s been a great season for the Covenant Knights football team having won their fourth consecutive district championship with a record of 12-1. Covenant hopes to bring home their second state championship this Saturday in the TAPPS Six-Man Division I State Final. Covenant played their first round playoff game at home against Kerville Our Lady of the Hills Academy and defeated the Defenders by a score of 60-6. In regionals, Covenant defeated Austin Veritas 58-6. The Knights then rolled to a 41-8 semi-final victory over Abilene Christian last Saturday to advance to the state championship.

The Knights will face Geneva School of Boerne in the state championship game this Saturday, December 7 at 12 p.m. in Zephyr, Texas. This will be a rematch of last year’s state final when Covenant won 70-40. Commenting on Covenant’s chances to repeat, Coach Brice Helton said, “Geneva is a strong team and they’re undefeated this year so we’re going to have our hands full. With nine seniors on the team, I hope we can rely on our experience and make a great finish to their career.”

This will be the fifth consecutive state final appearance for Covenant, and the sixth overall appearance in the program's short nine-year history. Covenant’s program has consistently been ranked in the top ten among public and private schools over the last two years with a combined record of 25-2 going into this week’s final. Helton said, “It’s hard to imagine where we’ve been over the last nine years, especially considering we only had five boys show up the first day of practice back in 2005. We’ve been extremely blessed over the years, and we will continue to build our program on principles that will allow our young men to be even more successful later on in life when it really matters.”
