John Collins

The Methodist Health System Board of Directors has a new chairman, elected at its March meeting.  John Collins, a partner at Haynes and Boone, succeeds Levi Davis, having completed his three-year term as chairman of the board. Methodist also welcomes new board member Clint McDonnough and returning board member Ruben Velez, MD. “One of the strengths of the Methodist Health System is the quality and dedication of our volunteer board members. Levi has provided stellar leadership over the past three years, and John is exceptionally well-prepared to lead our Board of Directors going forward,” said Dr. Stephen Mansfield, president and CEO of Methodist Health System.

Collins joined the Methodist Health System Board of Directors almost 15 years ago, and also serves on the Golden Cross and Methodist Health System Foundation boards. Collins served as board chairman elect for the past year. “Methodist’s mission of improving and saving lives deeply resonates with me, and my family,” said Collins. “My father was a long-time board member as well, and instilled in me the importance of ensuring quality, compassionate care for all families in our community.”

Collins, a partner at Haynes and Boone, has more than 30 years experience in several areas of tax practice, including estate planning, family wealth planning, charitable organizations, and employee benefits and executive compensation matters. He began his 38-year career with EY in 1977 in the St. Louis office. McDonnough is personally committed to supporting the greater Dallas community in achieving its’ potential, and is an active member of many organizations, serving as chairman, board member and champion for a wide range of initiatives in the community.

“Methodist is an integral part of the healthcare fabric of our community,” said McDonnough. “I look forward to working with my fellow directors, along with Methodist physicians and leadership, to ensure the continued strength of Methodist Health System.”

McDonnough served as Chairman of the Board for the United Way and was the 2012 Chair of the Dallas Regional Chamber, a role no other Big 4 executive has held. He has been honored with several awards within the community, including the 2009 Chairman’s Award from the Dallas Regional Chamber. McDonnough and his wife, Deb, have raised three children.

Ruben Velez, MD, returns to the corporate board after a brief hiatus. Dr. Velez is a nephrologist on the Methodist Health System medical staff.

“The Methodist Health System board plays a crucial role in charting the course and leading our organization as we provide quality care for our patients,” said Dr. Mansfield. “Their vision is invaluable, and we thank them all for their dedication and service.
