Executive Chef Richard Sipovic of Greenville Bar & Grill

Taste of history combined with menu of something new makes for delectable dining and fun

at Dallas's well-loved landmark

It is rumored to have one of Dallas's oldest liquor licenses, granted immediately after the end of Prohibition. Decades of fun followed at this Dallas landmark on lower Greenville Ave., and even a well-publicized fire. But while the times and ownership may have changed, the sign never did. The historic sign glows again -- this time over a revived Greenville Bar & Grill. The bar and restaurant dining destination makes its return debut, welcoming Dallas back through its doors to relive favorite memories and make all-new ones.

"We are really excited to shine this landmark up and put it back in its rightful place in Dallas's trophy case," said Shawn Foley, whose card names him as "Chief Bottle Washer," but who is, along with his wife, Stacey, the new ownership responsible for bringing Greenville Bar & Grill back to its original destination. "My dad was in the restaurant business when I was growing up, and I know how valuable a great restaurant can be to a community. Some of my fondest memories are riding in the backseat of the car to visit one of my dad's Taco Tico locations. I also have great memories of Greenville Bar & Grill from my time as a student at SMU. We had to help bring it back to life -- only better."

While the moniker is well-known, diners will find the menu at Greenville Bar & Grill something all-new.  Executive Chef Richard Sipovic (formerly of the Bellagio in Las Vegas and Libertine in Dallas), brings what he calls "low-country Southern" to the menu he developed for lunch and dinner service. Drawing on his love of good country fare (he is a country boy at heart, after all), Sipovic takes the farm-to-table concept and twists it to include a drip of Southern drawl.

"It's good comfort food that anyone can eat," said Sipovic, about the new lunch and dinner menu, which he describes as being heavily influenced by food from the Ole South. "My philosophy is that it's for everybody.  Everyone should be able to experience this style of food, love it and enjoy it as I do."

Greenville Bar & Grill's menu includes Southern favorites you didn't even know you had -- with a twist that Sipovic's high-end culinary experience brings.  Appetizers -- perfect for sharing -- include Fried Chicken Skins (yes, the skins, the 'verboten' part that is everyone's guilty favorite) with sweet jalapeno glaze, House Made Corn Dogs made by hand, Deviled Eggs and Hand Cranked Sausages. Salads include Local Field Greens with maple-cider vinaigrette, grapes, spiced pecans and bleu cheese; and a Field Bean Salad with black-eyed peas, wild wax beans, purple hull and chorizo, accented by a homemade burnt honey vinaigrette.

Entrees at Greenville Bar & Grill satisfy that need for Southern food goodness, and are available at lunch or dinner.  They include: Half Fried Chicken, served with jalapeno gravy and a lone star biscuit; Shrimp & Grits, with green chile cheddar grits, house sausage and pan jus; a Rabbit Pot Pie with a flaky, buttery crust and cauliflower; Rockfish, with black-eyed pea salad and parsnip puree; and even a 10-oz. Cedar Creek Ribeye, served with shells 'n' cheese.  If guests can manage to save a little space for dessert (or for the late-night drinks-and-dessert fix!), they will find an unbeatable Seasonal Crisp that changes with the fresh fruits Mother Nature makes available at the time (right now, it's a fall favorite:  Apple Crisp); a special root beer Float made with Henry's vanilla ice cream and handcrafted root beer; or even a piped-to-order Funnel Cake, served with bourbon sauce.

When sidling up to the bar like so many Dallasites have done decades before, guests will find a full traditional bar with all the reliable draft beers people come to expect, complemented by a wide selection of American and North Texas craft beers. Greenville Bar & Grill will feature a few import finds, but will center its selection on the best of the local craft beer movement, giving Dallas a chance to taste what's really going on in all those back rooms and basements.

Greenville Bar & Grill is known for having one of the best rooftop terraces on Greenville Ave., where guests will enjoy a full menu and drinks. The restaurant now includes a mezzanine level, in addition to the bottom floor, for a total of 4,000 square feet. The roof or mezzanine can be reserved for corporate events, HOA meetings, wedding receptions or proper Irish wakes.  History comes alive at Greenville Bar & Grill, making for a comfortable, tasteful, high-quality experience for any event.

Greenville Bar & Grill officially opens in its original location, 2817 Greenville Ave., on Thursday, Oct. 23. Lunch and dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily. Weekend brunch is served Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Parking is available behind the restaurant , and there is also valet.
