Plano to say “aloha” to buzzed-about bamboo retailer; grand opening celebration Aug. 25

Cariloha to Open First North Texas Location in The Shops at Legacy

The Shops at Legacy is pleased to welcome bamboo clothing, bedding and bath goods retailer Cariloha to the carefully curated retailer mix that constitutes Plano’s original lifestyle destination. The 1,428-square-foot store will be located at 7201 Bishop Road, Suite E11, between Scout & Molly’s and Cousin Earl. This will be the first Cariloha location in North Texas.

Cariloha will celebrate its grand opening on Sunday, August 25, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.  At the event, guests can enjoy complimentary bubbles and cookies, bamboo leis, and island-style music. The first 50 guests will receive a pair of Cariloha bamboo socks to kick-start their bamboo goods collection. All attendees will receive a scratch-off discount card for 10 to 20 percent off their purchase, as well as a chance to win other products including bamboo sheets, blankets, pillows and other items.

“Our guests are always looking for new ways to enhance their lifestyle,” Kelsey Ishmael, director of marketing for The Shops at Legacy, said. “Cariloha is a great example of an international company bringing something new to Plano with a line of products based on a green, renewable resource.”

The only retail store in Plano exclusively selling bedding and bath goods made from eco-friendly bamboo, Cariloha offers guests the chance to touch and feel the bamboo-soft difference in the bed sheets, towels, mattresses and apparel that the company offers. Bamboo is twice as soft to the touch as cotton; it keeps you up to three degrees cooler than cotton; and is naturally antibacterial, hypoallergenic and repels odor – all of which comes in handy on a hot day.

“When you think of bamboo, large green shoots in the jungle somewhere likely come to mind,” said Jeff Pedersen, Cariloha president and CEO. “Not many people know that bamboo can actually be husked and separated into ultra-soft fabric for making apparel and other goods at little-to-no risk on the environment. In fact, some species of bamboo can grow up to four feet per day. It’s one of the most renewable resources on the planet.”

Cariloha Plano is a family operation with four owners, Charles and Becky Burke and Kevin and Kristen Skiles. Charles and Becky first discovered Cariloha while cruising the Caribbean and shopping while docked at port. Before they were even home from vacation, they made a plan to open a Cariloha store in Austin, Texas, knowing their neighbors would appreciate the softer, cooler, and cleaner products just as much as they do. A year and a half later, they convinced daughter Kristen and son-in-law Kevin to partner and open a second store, this one in Plano.
