Shops for duds with your dog – it’s all for a good cause

Your dog is surely your best friend – and now that pup makes the perfect partner for shopping, too. Bring Rover on over to The Shops at Legacy, where on Aug. 29, from 5 to 8 p.m., retailers will participate in the lifestyle destination’s first PupCrawl, an evening of shopping to benefit a great cause. When you and your dog shop together, you can help other four-legged friends find new forever homes, courtesy of Habitat 4 Paws, a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing dogs and cats.

Retailers at The Shops at Legacy who are participating in the PupCrawl will donate 10 percent of proceeds to Habitat 4 Paws.  They include:

  • Lily Rain,
  • Scout & Molly’s,
  • Yoga Factory,
  • Kilwins,
  • Taco Diner,
  • Nicola’s Ristorante Italiano,
  • Ringo’s Pub, and
  • Benefit Cosmetics, where guests enjoy 10 percent off of services, with the option to donate to Habitat 4 Paws right there in the store.

PupCrawl participants can also get their pup microchipped in front of Urban Outfitters for only $25 (including chip and registration).  Enter a raffle for just $5 a ticket – you can win gift baskets filled with gift cards and merchandise from The Shops at Legacy retailers – and the funds benefit Habitat 4 Paws.  And, in case you are looking for a new furry family member, dogs that are up for adoption will be ready to meet you at Kilwins and Urban Outfitters.

Habitat 4 Paws is an animal rescue group in the DFW area whose mission is to rescue and find permanent homes for dogs and cats while caring for them in a volunteer staffed adoption facility and foster program.  Prior to adoption, all rescued dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, micro chipped and tested for common diseases.

This summer, The Shops at Legacy launched its first dog-friendly designation.  Retailers who are dogmatic about being dog-friendly now proudly display a window sticker to let you know that dogs are welcome in the store, or that treats or bowls of water are available.

“It’s very rewarding to be able to build on the excitement of this dog-friendly designation with an event that benefits such a worthy cause,” said Kelsey Ishmael, marketing director for The Shops at Legacy. “We love our pets, and being able to use something as fun as shopping to help other pets find homes is just so satisfying.”
