The Magdalen House Showcased at Say It Louder Gallery Party Hosted by AIA Dallas

On March 30, AIA Dallas hosted the Say it Louder Gallery Party to celebrate women in Dallas architecture for Women's History Month. The Magdalen House, a recovery community for alcoholic women that provides its services free of charge was showcased in the gallery to highlight the $3.5 million remodel of its new location. In 2017 the nonprofit purchased a condemned 100-year old house in East Dallas to become its new headquarters. Though the project faced many challenges ranging from planning and zoning issues to structural foundations crumbling - the mission of the project team led by Amanda Adler, project architect at Omniplan was always clear: restore the building so the nonprofit may restore women.

“Amanda and her team helped us bring our dream home to life. Our new location offers alcoholic women a dignified space to recover from this disease. Children can come visit, and no one will ever have to feel shame because they reached out for help. Our newly renovated space will help us serve thousands of women for years to come,” says Lisa Kroencke, executive director of The Magdalen House.

The Magdalen House is committed to helping alcoholic women achieve long-term, sustainable recovery through the following spiritually based, comprehensive programs.

  • First Step program: A two-week, residential program for an alcoholic woman who wants to stop drinking but cannot. She is provided with the education and resources to achieve sobriety and build a foundation of recovery.
  • Next Step program: A three-phase, nonresidential program for an alcoholic woman at any stage of recovery. She is provided with support and structure to sustain her recovery while growing in her knowledge of 12-Step spiritual principles.
  • Meetings and Fellowship: Solution-focused classes, meetings, and workshops are provided for alcoholic women at every stage of recovery, 365 days a year. We also have dedicated volunteers who provide Family Support to families and loved ones of alcoholics.
  • Resources and Education: Community partnerships help us connect alcoholic women and their families to resources that include sober living, counseling, and women’s health. At the same time, education initiatives allow us to reach and serve more alcoholic women.
