The Magdalen House, a nonprofit organization helping women and men achieve sobriety and sustain recovery from alcoholism at no cost and based on 12-Step spiritual principles is proud to announce that Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson has recently proclaimed September as Recovery Month.

“Alcoholism is a chronic, relapsing mental illness characterized by compulsive alcohol use, loss of control over alcohol intake, and a negative emotional state when not using. It affects people of all ethnicities, ages, genders, geographic regions, and socioeconomic levels,” says Lisa Kroencke, CEO of The Magdalen House. “The Recovery Month observance is a vital tool to improve the lives of those affected by mental health and alcohol use disorder. It raises much needed awareness and offers education to our community about the effective services that are available. We are beyond grateful to Mayor Johnson for helping us bring recognition to recovery in September.”

One in 11 women and one in seven men suffer from alcohol use disorder. Today, there are approximately 657,000 alcoholic individuals in D/FW alone. If you’re an alcoholic who can’t stop drinking or a concerned loved one of an alcoholic, the first step in recovery is education and access to resources. In North Texas, The Magdalen House provides residential recovery, social detox, group meetings, structured programs, family support groups, and tools designed to help grow and sustain recovery.

The Magdalen House is a nonprofit organization helping individuals with alcoholism achieve sobriety and sustain recovery at no cost and based on 12-Step spiritual principles.
