Operation Kindness – North Texas’ original and largest no-kill animal care and adoption center – invites the community to gather their furry friends and come out to Operation Kindness’ Dog Day Afternoon. The annual event is the largest festival in Dallas-Fort Worth celebrating dogs and the people who love them, and will be hosted at the Operation Kindness campus in Carrollton.

“Dog Day Afternoon was created as a way to celebrate the bond between dogs and their owners, and to provide a free, fun event for the community to get to know us,” said Jim Hanophy, CEO of Operation Kindness. “We are able to introduce some of our animals and get the word out about animal adoption, so that when people are ready to adopt, they’ll think of us.”

This year’s free event, sponsored by Pet Supplies Plus, will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Operation Kindness, 3201 Earhart Drive, Carrollton, TX 75006. Admission and parking are free. Highlights include:

  • “Mutt midway” with dozens of vendors selling a wide variety of pet-related merchandise and puppy kissing booth
  • Free microchipping for the first 125 dogs
  • Free “Ask the Vet” tent
  • Low-cost pet vaccines by Texas Coalition for Animal Protection
  • Kona Ice
  • Sweet tea and lemonade provided by Raising Cane’s
  • PopStar Popsicles
  • Pet Psychic and communicator Sandra Larson
  • Photo Booth by Level-Up – take home a photo of your family and pets, props included!
  • Canine contests with ribbons and prizes, including: Best Costume, Stupid Pet Tricks and Best Pooch Smooch

Founded in 1976, Operation Kindness is the original and largest no-kill shelter in North Texas. Its mission is to care for homeless cats and dogs in a no-kill environment until each is adopted into responsible homes and to advocate humane values and behavior. In 2016, Operation Kindness celebrated their 40th anniversary and their achievement of saving more than 90,000 animals since their inception. Annually the shelter assists more than 5,000 dogs and cats, caring for an average of 300 animals daily with another 100-150 animals in foster homes.

Join Operation Kindness in their mission to care for homeless animals by becoming a member of the Happy Tails Society. This group of dedicated friends provides a monthly gift to help pay for the medical care, medicine, food, shelter, nurturing and behavior training the pets need to have a second chance at life.
