Gala raises $1.4 million, honors four laureates and welcomes surprise appearance by Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott

Junior Achievement of Dallas (JA Dallas) honored four distinguished business leaders at the 28th annual Dallas Business Hall of Fame on Saturday, March 28, at the Omni Dallas Hotel. The fundraising galapresented by Ryan, LLCrecognized Susan Adzick, Phillip Huffines, Allen Nye and Steven Williams for their lasting contributions to the Dallas business community and region.

The event raised a record-breaking $1.4 million in support of JA Dallas' mission to inspire and prepare young people for success in a global economy.

Dallas Cowboys Strength and Conditioning Coach Harold Nash served as emcee, kicking off the program by pondering aloud what exactly a Cowboys strength coach was doing hosting a celebration of Dallas business leadersbefore drawing a convincing parallel between his work developing athletes and Junior Achievement's work preparing students for the real world. Nash set a high-energy tone that carried through the entire evening.

JaiMarie Bardwell, a senior at Irving High School, was named the 2026 Student of the Year and awarded the Sandi Smith Scholarshipa $15,000 award to support her higher education journey. Selected from a competitive pool of applicants, Bardwell was recognized for her leadership, service and commitment to creating opportunity for others, including her mentorship of younger students through the JA High School Heroes program. Casey Mellody, JA Dallas Vice President of Education, presented the award. Stephen Tigh, JA Dallas Board Chair, followed with a champagne toast before dinner.

When Chris LaTurno, president and CEO of Junior Achievement of Dallas, took the stage, he emphasized the lasting impact JA has on students' trajectoriesand why the organization's hands-on approach is exactly what the future demands.

"Three in five JA alumni say they started or owned a business because of their JA experienceand 92 percent agree that as automation and AI change jobs and the economy, students who go through JA will be better prepared for the future," said LaTurno. "Students are not just hearing about economics and personal financethey are experiencing them."

Auctioneer Scott Peterson followed with a competitive live auction featuring exclusive experiences, including trips to the Amalfi Coast, Sonoma Valley and Champagne, France, as well as a Texas Rangers package and a private dinner at Chamberlains Steak and Fish.

The evening took an unforgettable turn during the live appeal, when Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescottin attendance at the invitation of his coach and mentor Harold Nashtook the stage and announced a personal gift of $25,000 to Junior Achievement of Dallas.

"I am the man that I am, strictly because of the community that was around me when I grew up, said Prescott. It takes a village to raise somebody, and everyone in this room is a part of that community. So, I'm giving $25,000 tonightI challenge each and every one of you to give to the leaders of tomorrow.

Prescott then tossed autographed footballs to guests making matching donations throughout the room.

JA Dallas students introduced each of the evening's four honorees.

Susan Adzick, president of McLane Restaurant, leads one of the largest food service systems distribution companies in the country, with 45 distribution centers delivering to more than 34,000 restaurants. She has held executive roles at McLane and previously at PepsiCo Food Systems and has served on boards including the International Foodservice Distributors Association, National Restaurant Association and Women's Foodservice Forum. She has also been involved with the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas and the Dallas Arboretum Women's Council.

Phillip Huffines, co-founder and co-owner of Huffines Communities, has spent more than four decades transforming the North Texas landscape through real estate development. His firm has developed more than 20,000 single-family homesites and 2,500 multifamily units, generating billions in value and supporting regional growth. A dedicated mentor and philanthropist, he supports STEM education and entrepreneurship through the Huffines Foundation and is a longtime JA Dallas board membernamed the organization's Philanthropist of the Year in 2018.

Allen Nye, CEO of Oncor, leads Texas' largest electric delivery company, serving more than 13 million customers. Under his leadership since 2018, Oncor has emphasized safety, reliability and innovation while guiding the company through an era of rapid growth and modernization. He is also active in civic and industry organizations supporting public service, economic development and education.

Steven Williams, executive vice president and vice chairman of PepsiCo, leads global commercial strategy, stakeholder engagement and growth initiatives across one of the worlds most recognized food and beverage companies. Dwell with Dignity announces the return of The STUDIO (formerly Thrift Studio), presented by Amazon, the organizations flagship annual fundraiser and a longstanding spring event within Dallas design and philanthropic communities. The VIP Party is April 9 (ticketed) and the shopping extravaganza, which is free and open to the public, is April 10 to May 9.

Launched in September 2011, The STUDIO is now in its 15th year, marking a milestone moment in the events evolution and continued impact across North Texas.

Since its inception, the event has grown into a highly anticipated event, bringing together interior designers, showrooms, retailers, corporate partners and supporters to generate critical funding for Dwell with Dignitys home transformation work across Dallas. The STUDIO provides approximately one-third of the organizations annual operating revenue.

Formerly known as Thrift Studio, the updated name reflects the continued evolution and maturity of the event. As designer participation and community engagement have expanded over the years, The STUDIO aligns with the caliber of the experience and the design-forward presentation the event has become known for.

The STUDIO is a high-end pop-up shop featuring donated and purchased furniture, housewares, accessories, artwork and designer finds sold at significant discounts, with 100 percent of proceeds benefiting Dwell with Dignitys mission. Grant Halliburton Foundation Kicks Off 20th Anniversary with Beacon of Hope Luncheon

Grant Halliburton Foundation hosted its 17th annual Beacon of Hope Community Luncheon on Friday, March 13 at the Omni Dallas Hotel, kicking off the organizations 20th anniversary year. More than 500 guests gathered in support of the Foundations mission, helping to raise $335,000 for youth mental health and suicide prevention programs across North Texas.

The event featured keynote speaker Steve Burns, best known as the original host of Nickelodeons Blues Clues, along with remarks from Foundation leaders and Co-chairs Meredith and David Camp and Amy and Michael Roseman.

Ahead of the program, DJ Lucy Wrubel set an upbeat tone at the Welcome Reception, where attendees enjoyed champagne and sparkling water from a 20th anniversary-themed champagne wall. Over coffee from Another Sunrise Coffee Company, guests connected and recorded messages of hope at the Hope Hotline telephone booth, an installation marking the Foundations milestone year.

Another activation featured an oversized Blues Clues-inspired purple mailbox inviting attendees to take an encouraging letter of hope. Guests also stopped at a 20th anniversary photo wall and browsed raffle packages that included luxury travel, high-end shopping experiences, sporting events and more.

The luncheon opened with the Grand Prairie Fine Arts Academy Singers performing Seasons of Love from the Broadway musical Rent.

Steve Noviello, FOX 4 News host, welcomed guests, followed by an invocation from Cantor Vicky Glikin, senior cantor at Temple Emanu-El. Guests then enjoyed lunch while connecting with fellow supporters.

TheRosemans thanked sponsors, donors, committee members and volunteers, along with Founding Luncheon Chair Barb Farmer.

TheCamps then presented the 2026 Vanita Halliburton Beacon Award to Elizabeth Carlock Phillips, founder of No More Victims and executive director of the Phillips Foundation.

Phillips was recognized for her advocacy for survivors of sexual abuse and for leading the passage of Treys Law in Texas and Missouri, which prohibits the misuse of nondisclosure agreements against survivors, in memory of her late brother, Trey Carlock, who died by suicide.

We refuse to let the end of their story be the whole story, Carlock Phillips said. We invite joy and sorrow to coexist. Keep fighting for the unseen and the hurting.

Following a mission video, Foundation President Kevin Hall reflected on the organizations 20 years of impact.

As the video showed, the story of Grant Halliburton Foundation is the story of a community that has shown up over the past 20 years to make sure young people know they are not alone, Hall said. The Foundation has reached more than 375,000 students, educators, parents and professionals with life-saving mental health and suicide prevention training because of you.

Amy McCloskey, co-founder of the Foundation and Grant Halliburtons sister, spoke about the organizations ongoing work.

Because of this community, there are young people who are alive and well today who might not have been otherwise, McCloskey said. Continue this legacy with us by bringing help, hope and peace of mind to young people and their families.

David shared how he and his wife became involved after five friends lost children within five years and encouraged attendees to connect with young people in their lives.

I realized it only takes five minutes to start a conversation that could change the trajectory of a struggling youths future, he said.

David and Michael led the paddle raise, joined on stage by Amy Roseman and Meredith.

Burns delivered a personal message about his experience with depression during his talk, The Cost of Showing Up Happy: Burnout and the Wisdom of Asking for Help.

He now shares his story as a speaker, podcast host, musician and actor, continuing conversations about mental health with audiences of all ages.

What made the show work was the idea that I needed [help from] the home viewer, Burns said. Will you help me? I would ask [on the show]. Its OK to ask for help. Make asking for help seem ordinary.

Burns said that while he appeared joyful to millions of Blues Clues viewers, he was living with undiagnosed depression.

Burns experience reflects the challenges many young people face, a focus of the Foundations work as it marks its 20th anniversary year and continues expanding youth mental health education and resources across North Texas.

That focus was echoed earlier in the program.

Because the future we are working toward is one where young people feel safe asking for help, where parents know what to look for and where to turn, and where suicide prevention is proactive, not reactive, Hall said.

Breakthrough T1D Patron Party Launches 30th Anniversary Dallas Gala in Style

Supporters gathered on March 5 for the Patron Party kicking off the 2026 Dallas Gala benefiting Breakthrough T1D, celebrating an exciting milestone: 30 years of the Dallas Galas impact in the fight against type 1 diabetes.

Hosted by the Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Cove Showroom, the evening also honored the companys long-standing connection to the T1D community. In the 1930s, Sub-Zero founder Westye Bakke created one of the first reliable home refrigerators after his young son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and needed a safe way to store insulin. That legacy continues today, with Sub-Zero supporting research and families affected by T1D.

Guests enjoyed live entertainment by Goga Music, delicious bites and cocktails, a wine tasting from Waters Edge, and a whiskey tasting from Garrison Brothers Distillery while connecting with fellow supporters and advocates dedicated to advancing research and hope for those living with T1D.

Throughout the evening, Breakthrough T1D Youth Ambassadors students living with T1D who help amplify the organizations mission through fundraising, volunteering, and advocacy could be spotted in their signature bright blue shirts. In addition to selling tickets for a $5,000 sweepstakes prize, several ambassadors, who are student musicians at Highland Park High School, entertained the crowd with a lively musical medley.

The program featured remarks from Dallas Chapter Board President Deb Sloan, the Swartwout family this years featured Fund A Cure Family and 2026 Gala Honoree Dr. Perrin White. Harper Swartwout shared part of her journey living with T1D, the hope that research breakthroughs offer the next generation, and the profound impact Dr. White, her endocrinologist, has had on her life and future aspirations.

We are especially honored to serve alongside this years honoree, Dr. Perrin White, said Harper Swartwout. Dr. White has been alongside me ever since the clinical trial I was part of landed in Dallas. He is a great doctor and the reason I want to go into medicine one day.

The Johnson Family Stacey and Dave Johnson, Chelsea and Blake McMullen, Kendall and Michael Kelly, and Rylie Johnson are serving as chairs of the 2026 Dallas Gala, making this year especially meaningful as the event celebrates three decades of impact and Chelseas own 30-year diaversary.

Texas Womans University Honors Lee Cullum, Raises Record Funds for Graduate Scholarships

More than 500 guests attended Texas Womans Universitys 24th annual Dallas Leadership Luncheon on February 17 at the Hilton Anatole, where Dallas journalism icon Lee Cullum was presented with the Virginia Chandler Dykes Leadership Award. The honor recognizes a civic leader whose work reflects an enduring commitment to education and service.

The event raised a record $330,000 more than double the amount raised last year for graduate student scholarships.

Cullum, widely known as the former host of CEO, KERAs long-running interview series with prominent business leaders, has built a distinguished journalism career that has included commentary for PBS News Hour and NPRs All Things Considered, as well as service as editor of the editorial page of the Dallas Times Herald. She currently contributes to The Dallas Morning News and Patron Magazine, and writes a Substack column titled La Vie en Orange. Cullum was selected for what Chancellor Carine Feyten described as her thoughtful storytelling and reporting that reflects a range of perspectives and strengthens the community.

In her welcome remarks prior to introducing Cullum, Feyten underscored TWUs growing impact.

When people hear the name Texas Womans University, they sometimes assume they already know our story, Feyten said. They think we are a small institutionor a university with a proud history, but a limited future. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Calling TWU bold, modern and deeply relevant, Feyten cited continued athletic success, expansion of the Doswell School of Aeronautical Sciences, the opening of the $107 million Health Sciences Center, and the success of the Dream Big fundraising campaign. She noted that TWUs mission to expand opportunities for women has never been more urgent.

The luncheon also recognized the 2026 Virginia Chandler Dykes Scholars LaTonya Seldon, Valeria Millinga, Faith A. Tissot, Bitali Islam, LaToya Huntley and Marissa C. Gomez who represent the universitys five colleges and are completing graduate studies in occupational therapy, nutrition, nursing, molecular biology, special education and human resources. Seldon spoke on behalf of the group.

TWU has been a pillar for me a place to build both skills and community, she said.

A highlight of the program was a conversation between Cullum and her granddaughter, Lili Clark, a senior associate at Lyda Hill Philanthropies. Cullum shared intriguing anecdotes from her journalism career, including encounters with global leaders such as Nelson Mandela and Margaret Thatcher.

During the exchange, Cullum offered wisdom and insight drawn from decades in public life. Do one thing at a time, she advised. Be calm after the change. And, in advice that felt especially fitting for an event focused on supporting students: Dont just think of the answer. Become the answer.

She also spoke about the universitys impact, noting that TWU gives opportunities to women who might not otherwise have them and gives our community the trained and educated women that we need.

Near the close of the program, Cullum invoked the words of Rev. Jesse Jackson, who had passed away earlier that day: Keep hope alive. When asked what gives her hope now, she pointed to the scholars in attendance and to her granddaughter beside her.

Young people like you, she said. Anyone has the ability to forge on, no matter what.

Another highlight of the luncheon was the surprise announcement of the Lee Cullum Endowed Scholarship. Guests contributed $35,000 during the event, and the fund reached its $50,000 endowment level within 24 hours.

The luncheon was chaired by Lindsay Billingsley, Lucy Burns and Sumner Billingsley, with Lucy Billingsley serving as Honorary Chair and Ralph Hawkins as Honorary Chair Emeritus. Nearly 700 attendees gathered at the The Stewpots 18^th annual Soups On Luncheon and Art Show, presented by H-E-B/Central Market, held at Thompson Dallas on Monday, February 2.

The event featured an art show including 100 curated pieces of original art created by artists from The Stewpot Art Program, soups by 10 local celebrity chefs, and a meaningful conversation with luncheon speaker Hailee Kaleem Wright, all woven together around the luncheon theme of Living in Harmony.

Featured speaker Hailee Kaleem Wright, singer, songwriter and actor, shared her story of resilienceabout overcoming homelessness twice on her rise to Broadway stardom, about holding on to her faith and to little moments that helped her keep going, and about the dignity she witnessed at The Stewpot that stood in contrast to her familys dehumanizing experiences when seeking help.

The [Stewpot] campus is incredible, Kaleem Wright said. On my tour, I kept hearing them say neighbor and our friends here and our family here. There were very specific words they were using that I picked up on immediately because it was so different from what my experience was. And that was really heartwarming."

Kaleem Wright made waves as Catherine of Aragon in SIX: The Musical and recently captivated audiences as Satine in Moulin Rouge! The Musical. The Broadway star surprised luncheon attendees with a beautiful performance of Firework.

Brenda Snitzer, executive director of The Stewpot, thanked the community for making the move to the former CitySquare campus possible last year and celebrated the growth of The Stewpots programs. Since taking over the Food Pantry last year, demand has grown by 50 percent, and the program is serving more than 300 households daily, in addition to the 900 hot meals served every day at The Bridge downtown.

Hosted by The Stewpot Alliance, the event was co-chaired by community leaders Cory and Shane Bowenand Ashley and Danny Ellis, and retired Dallas Regional Chamber president and CEO Dale Petroskeyserved as honorary chair. NBC 5 anchor Deborah Ferguson emceed the luncheon. Since 2008, Soups On has raised more than $5 million for Dallas neighbors experiencing homelessness and poverty.

Chef Brian C. Luscher of 33 Restaurant Group (Suburban Yacht Club, Union Bear, Taverna Rossa), along with nine other local chefs, created soups in honor of The Stewpots legacy of feeding the hungry. Breakthrough T1D will host its North Texas Community Summit on Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Irving Convention Center (500 W. Las Colinas Blvd., Irving, TX 75039). Open to families, adults, caregivers and those newly diagnosed, the summit offers attendees the opportunity to learn from leading medical experts, explore the latest advancements in T1D technology and treatments, hear empowering stories from T1D champions, and connect with others who understand life with T1D. This community summit is not only educational, but it reminds people they are not alone, said Amy Camp, territory executive director of the Dallas, Fort Worth and Oklahoma Chapters of Breakthrough T1D. The event features a keynote presentation by Anastasia Albanese-ONeill, Ph.D., APRN, CDCES, community screening and clinical trials education director at Breakthrough T1D, where she has volunteered since her daughter was diagnosed in 2002. A former professor of pediatrics and nursing at the University of Florida, her research has been published in leading journals, and she has provided testimony at congressional hearings, The White House and in the Florida legislature. Grant Halliburton Foundation Celebrates 20 Years of Youth Mental Health and Suicide Prevention

Grant Halliburton Foundation is marking its 20th anniversary in 2026, commemorating two decades of work focused on youth mental health and suicide prevention education for North Texas communities. Founded in 2006, the Foundation has reached more than 375,000 students, educators, parents, and professionals with its mental health education, resources, and support programs.

Throughout the year, the Foundation will recognize this milestone by highlighting its history, amplifying its mission and impact, and presenting its signature annual events through a 20th anniversary lens.

Out of the grief of losing my brother, Grant, to suicide, my parents, Vanita and Alan, and I co-founded Grant Halliburton Foundation in 2006, fueled by the desire to help save others from such devastating loss, said Amy McCloskey, Foundation co-founder. What began as a way to honor Grants memory has grown into an organization dedicated to helping young people and families navigate mental health challenges and prevent suicide.

The Foundations earliest efforts were rooted in art and creativity. From the time Grant Halliburton could grasp a pencil, he expressed himself through his art. In 2006, Grant Halliburtons artwork was featured in an exhibition titled Journey, and the Foundation awarded its first art scholarship to a graduating student from Plano West Senior High School, where Grant attended high school. That inaugural event laid the foundation for a mission that has grown to bring lifesaving help and hope to young people and families today.

In recognition of that history, the Foundation will host a 20th Anniversary Art Show in September during National Suicide Prevention Month, reimagining its first event with community programming, educational activations, and opportunities for reflection and connection, centered around an exhibition of Grants artwork. Additional details will be announced later this year.

Grant was an artist in the truest sense of the word, and he was extremely talented in art and music. His vibrant, creative spiritand his deep love for peoplecontinue to inspire the work we do today, McCloskey said.

Other anniversary-focused programming in 2026 includes a Galleria Dallas Gallery Wall installation in May during Mental Health Awareness Month, as well as the Foundations annual fundraising events, including Beacon of Hope featuring Steve Burns (March 13), Eric Nadel Birthday Benefit (May 14), and The Hope Party (Nov. 20).

Our 20th anniversary is both a celebration and a call to action, Kevin Hall, Grant Halliburton Foundation president, said. As we celebrate throughout the year, these events represent more than milestones on a calendarthey reflect the community of supporters, volunteers, and partners, who make our work possible.

Suicide remains a critical public health concern. National data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show suicide is the second-leading cause of death for people ages 10 to 24 in the United States. In Texas, on average, we lose a teen to suicide every day, and two per week in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, underscoring the ongoing need for prevention, education and early intervention.

Weve made meaningful progress in changing the conversation around youth mental health, and we know our work is making a difference, Hall said. When young people are supported early, and communities are equipped with the right resources, lives can be changed. That belief, and the hope it brings, will continue to guide our work for the next 20 years and beyond.

Living in Harmony is the theme of next years luncheon which features keynote speaker Hailee Kaleem Wright, an actor, singer and songwriter currently starring in Moulin Rouge on Broadway. Raised in Houston, Hailee experienced homelessness at a young age and shares her journey to become a Broadway star. With philanthropy at the heart of her mission, Hailee continues to use her platform to uplift and inspire the next generation.

"Hailee's story of resilience and hope is a powerful reminder of what compassion and community can accomplish," said Brenda Snitzer, executive director of The Stewpot. Steve Burns, best known as the original host of Nickelodeons Blues Clues, will be the featured speaker at Grant Halliburton Foundations 17th Annual Beacon of Hope Community Luncheon on Friday, March 13, 2026, at the Omni Dallas Hotel (555 S. Lamar St., Dallas). Burns will present The Cost of Showing Up Happy: Burnout and the Wisdom of Asking for Help.

The luncheon is the first fundraising event of Grant Halliburton Foundations 20th anniversary year.

As the implacably happy, beloved host of Blues Clues, Steve Burns was the guy who sang, danced and cheerfully bolstered childrens self-esteem. What most dont know is that he was doing so with undiagnosed severe clinical depression. He will talk about the following:

What is the cost of forcing joy?
How can one maintain peak-level achievement and be completely burned out at the same time?
And once its all over, how do you re-engage with your own life when the tank is completely empty?

Breakthrough T1D Mahjong Tournament Raised Funds for Nonprofit Organization

On December 2^nd, more than 100 women gathered at a local Dallas country club to play mahjong while raising funds for Breakthrough T1Ds North Texas chapter. With a special visit from Santa Claus, the guests took photos with him amidst the festive decorations. They sipped beverages, enjoyed lunch and played three rounds of mahjong with special prizes for the winners.

Event co-chairs Leigh Burns and Lane Olson welcomed friends and attendees for this creative fundraiser. Burns welcomed everyone, and Olson told of her son who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

Local Breakthrough T1D volunteer Adrian Traylor shared how her husband and two stepdaughters have type 1 diabetes and urged everyone to donate funds and purchase a raffle ticket. High school ambassador Donna Chen, who has type 1 diabetes, talked about how she deals with this condition while trying to be a normal student.

Amy Camp, Breakthrough T1D Territory Director, added, Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that affects nearly 1.5 million people in the United States, including over 200,000 children. Broadways Ryan McCartan Inspires at Breakthrough T1D Luncheon with Uplifting Stories

The 2025 Breakthrough T1D Dallas Luncheon, held on November 20 at Brook Hollow Golf Club, brought together a passionate community of nearly 200 families, supporters, volunteers, and leaders united by one goal: accelerating progress toward cures for type 1 diabetes. Hosted by longtime CBS 11 Texas news anchor and dedicated T1D mom Karen Borta, the afternoon opened with her heartfelt welcome and personal story about her daughter Kylies diagnosis at age 13. She acknowledged the incredible impact of Breakthrough T1D on her family and celebrated the luncheons milestonemore than $1 million raised to date for life-changing research and community programs.

Karen then introduced Deborah Sloan, president of the Breakthrough T1D Dallas Board of Directors and a partner at Jones Day. Deborah shared her familys connection through her son Clayton, who was diagnosed with T1D at age 4 and is now 21 and thriving at NYU. She highlighted how the many advancements have improved his daily life. She also emphasized the momentum of the chapter, which raised more than $6 million last year, and invited guests to upcoming events including the Dallas Gala in April and a Mahjong tournament in December.

Next, Territory Executive Director Amy Camp offered an energizing update on Breakthrough T1Ds mission. She detailed the organizations global push toward what the T1D community needs now and next: advancing more than 400 research projects and 11 clinical trials, expanding early detection, driving disease-modifying therapies, and accelerating progress toward cures. She noted Breakthrough T1Ds $146 million investment in research last year, amplified to $521 million through strategic partnerships.

We cant do this on our own this is powered by people like you, Camp said. We stand on the shoulders of so many who have supported these efforts, which is why we continue to see such meaningful advances. We thank the Roosevelt family, who launched the luncheon in 2013 and helped grow it into a celebrated annual event that has now raised over $1.2 million for T1D research. She also expressed her gratitude to the many sponsors whose generosity makes the luncheon possible.

Camp then welcomed the 2025 Luncheon Chairs, Susan and Jim Baldwin, longtime volunteers with Breakthrough T1D. They shared their personal connection to the mission as the parents of their daughter Sarah, who was diagnosed with T1D at age 9. Jim reflected on the shock and steep learning curve their family faced 23 years ago and described how todays advancementsmade possible through ongoing researchhave greatly increased Sarahs independence and safety as she builds her life in New York. Jim added, Progress is possible. Their gratitude for the generosity in the room was unmistakable and deeply heartfelt.

His additional credits include Fiyero in the 15th anniversary cast of Wicked, Prince Hans in the closing cast of Frozen, and the originating role of Jason Dean in the Off-Broadway production of Heathers. He has also appeared in numerous television roles, most notably as Diggie Smalls on the Disney Channels Liv and Maddie.

McCartan delivered an inspiring and humorous keynote about growing up with T1D. Highlights include:

Referencing Nick Jonas: I had been on the Disney Channel for many years but was only the second most famous Disney diabetic. Do you know who is number one? Nick Jonas! I remember watching him and thinking I could do that. Today Im here to speak not as Nick Jonasbut as the next best thing.
Early diagnosis: I had no understanding of why I was constantly thirsty, shaky, exhausted, and frequently wetting the bed. It was all due to chronic high blood sugar.
- First experience managing T1D: Attendinga Minnesota clinic, he learned to check his blood sugar and manage insulin something he has done on his own ever since: The suite of tools they used back then were actually developed by JDRF, now Breakthrough T1D, so you could say I have come full circle speaking here today.
- Two areas of awareness: the importance of education and the power of levity. I believe in the power of laughter and talking to others. I remember my first conversation with an agent who told me not to tell anyone about my diabetes as it was a potential burden. Now, just a week ago, Im on a billboard in New York acknowledging I have diabetes its not a secret, its a fact. Thats a breakthrough.
- How he got his start: From a middle-class family, he was discovered at age 7 after being asked to sing at his sisters voice lesson. The teacher was looking for a young boy for a musical, and I got a call the next day.
- How T1D helped shape his career: All my life I have been showing up, following directions, and paying attentionthats what had been keeping me alive. It was assumed he was an experienced actor because his teacher had exaggerated his background, though his only experience was managing diabetes. When the lead left a Halloween rehearsal for trick-or-treating, Ryan stepped in. I had no interest in thatcandy was a new poison, and as for a normal childhood, that ship had sailed. I got the lead, which led to more opportunities.
- Reflecting on T1D: T1D has made me resilient, empathetic, and motivated. The louder and prouder you live with your circumstances, the more you get back. Nothing feels better than giving the keynote speech for the organization that saved your life.
- Looking ahead: My story isnt over. There are children, teens, and adults whose stories are just beginning. My dream for the future is that we do such a good job that we dont need these types of luncheons anymore because we cured T1D and we usher in an era where Disney and Broadway stars are just really good actors.

Texas Womens Foundation (TXWF) has awarded Dallas College Foundation a $500,000 grantthe largest education and workforce development grant the Texas Womens Foundation has ever made to a single organization. Texas Womens Foundation leaders presented a check on November 19 at Dallas Colleges Brookhaven Campus to support programs helping thousands of students enroll in Dallas College and access wraparound services that help them complete their education. These programs are part of Dallas College Foundations work to drive innovation and student success at Dallas College through strategic philanthropic investments.

Josh Skolnick, Executive Director of Dallas College Foundation said, We thank Texas Womens Foundation for its commitment to making a significant impact in education. This grant will help thousands of students achieve a life-changing credential, leading them to a rewarding career in Dallas top industries. The supported programs, including the Dallas College Promise Scholarship, have already helped over 26,000 students pursue their dreams. Dallas College is one of the largest colleges in the nation, serving more than 130,000 students.

Texas Womens Foundation Board Chair Cris Zertuche Wong shared the findings from TXWFs 2024 Economic Issues for Women in Texas Report. Women play a critical role in the Texas economy, representing 46% of the workforce. And according to the Commit Partnership, 63% of all jobs in Texas will require some post-secondary education by 2031. This grant is designed to help women pursue and complete their education and to advance opportunities for economic security, stability, and success for themselves, their families and their futures.

Dr. Carlos Cruz, Associate Vice Chancellor of Well Being & Social Support at Dallas College, discussed the grants impact. A substantial portion of this grant will support the Dallas College Promise Scholarship, offering a tuition-free associate or bachelors degree to qualifying seniors at Promise High Schools. Scholarships are also available to eligible students parents or guardians to pursue a scholarship or to fund a certificate or associates degree at no cost, thus making this a true two-generation approach.

He added, The grant also supports the Finish & Fly Fund, helping students complete the final credit hours and certification exams needed for their credential, and the Family Care Program that supports student parents and expectant parents by addressing family care needs and providing critical wraparound services. Family support includes classes on parenting, nutrition and wellness, while also receiving guidance from a dedicated team that includes a student care coordinator, success coach, licensed counselor and academic tutor.

The 16th Annual Hope Party Raised Record-Breaking $620,000+ for Grant Halliburton Foundation

Grant Halliburton Foundation held its 16^th annual Hope Party on Nov. 21 at The Statler in downtown Dallas with more than 530 supporters in attendance. The event raised a record-breaking $620,000+ through sponsorships, underwriting, tickets, live and silent auctions, a wine and spirits pull, and the Sips and Sparkles champagne wall, where attendees played for a chance to win a one-carat diamond donated by Sue Gragg Precious Jewels. Funds raised support the Foundations work providing mental health education, resources and support to North Texas youth and their families.

At the Welcome Reception, DJ RomiQ spun lively music to create a party atmosphere. Attendees sipped beverages and visited with friends, all while perusing and bidding on more than 250 silent auction items. The Platinum and Ruby Sponsors and VIPs were invited to the VIP Lounge to enjoy small bites and a private bar, underwritten by Martha and Hon. Douglas Lang.

The ballroom featured Bordeaux red accents and beautiful floral creations by Floral and Décor Underwriter, CONCEPTO. The stage was draped in dramatic red draping thanks to PARTY! Dallasand Todd Fiscus.

Texas Womens Foundation Celebrated 40th Anniversary with Christine Baranski

On November 14 at the Omni Dallas Hotel, Texas Womens Foundation (TXWF) celebrated its Ruby Anniversary Luncheon featuring Christine Baranski, an Emmy, two-time Tony, Screen Actors Guild, Drama Desk and American Comedy Award winner. The luncheon raised $840,000 in support of the Foundations mission, including more than $112,000 at the event itself.

TXWF Board Chair Cris Zertuche Wong welcomed more than 950 guests including seven of the organizations 11 living Founders. We celebrate the nearly $90 million granted to women and girl-serving organizations in Texas and more than $25 million invested in research, advocacy and leadership programs for a total impact of $115 million on Texas women, their families, and their futures since the Foundations inception in 1985.

Wong thanked former Foundation leaders and Ruby Anniversary co-chairs: Gail Griswold and Brenda Jackson (1980s), Laura Estrada (1990s), Helen Frank (2000s), and Shonn Brown (2020s) and the sponsors (see list below).

I told my agent I want to play a woman of authority whose well spoken. My first criteria (for a script/role) is smart. To my delight, The Good Wife pilot came out, and I got the role.

Advice to young women:

Get an education. Educate yourself in every area. An educated woman will educate her children and sons and be a force.
Find your voice, and say it.
Have a vision of who you want to be. Embody the best vision of yourself.

A Burst of Color at Uptowns Gateway: Andrea Holmes Transforms a Dallas Underpass

Driving into Uptown Dallas feels a little different now. Where once there was a gray, overlooked bridge entrance, visitors are now greeted by a joyful explosion of colora sweeping mural that celebrates the neighborhoods spirit and story. The new work, created by McKinney-based artist Andrea Holmes, is the latest effort by Uptown Dallas Inc. (UDI) to reimagine public spaces and foster community pride. It is located at the underpass where the Katy Trail meets Cedar Springs.

Holmes, who has earned the nickname the bird lady for her ongoing Wings Across the World 100 Bird Mural Project, is known for turning walls into vibrant ecosystems. For Uptown, she chose the Monk parakeeta bright green bird that, while not native to Texas, has become an unmistakable presence in Dallas. Flocks can often be seen nesting around White Rock Lake and the Katy Trail, making the parrot both a surprising and fitting emblem for the district.

Ive painted birds in Hawaii and Austria, but Uptown gave me a chance to capture something close to home, Holmes said. This mural isnt just about the parrotsits about the life of Uptown. People biking, walking dogs, hopping on the trolley. I wanted to celebrate the energy of the neighborhood while weaving in my passion for birds.

The mural also includes a hummingbird darting through fields of Texas wildflowers, along with Uptown icons like Betty the Trolley and everyday momentsresidents carrying groceries, a cyclist on the trail, a dog walker. Its as much a portrait of community as it is a piece of art.

For Uptown Dallas Inc., the nonprofit that manages and promotes the district, the mural was a chance to create a welcome mat unlike any other. We wanted something that told people they were entering a special place, said Bailey Criado, events and marketing manager with UDI. Andreas work brought that vision to life. She captured the soul of Uptownits character, its vibrancy and the pride people feel living here.

Painting the massive underpass was no small task. Holmes spent four weeks on-site, spray-painting from a boom lift and navigating the challenges of a high-traffic gateway. But the effort was worth it. Passersby stopped to cheer her on, neighbors offered words of encouragement, and trail users shared how much the mural brightened their daily routine.

The project is part of a larger push to elevate Uptowns public spaces. UDI is working with the City of Dallas and the Turtle Creek Association to repaint surrounding bridge structures, restore medians, and add finishing touches that frame Holmess work. A protective anti-graffiti coating ensures the mural will remain vivid for years to come.

For Holmes, its one more milestone in her journey to paint 100 bird murals around the worldbut this one carries extra meaning. Its number six, she said, smiling. And it feels like home.

The Stewpot Celebrated its 50th Anniversary with a Festive Birthday Party

The Stewpot marked its 50^th anniversary on October 24^th with a lively celebration at its new campus on Malcolm X Blvd., joined by founders, supporters, elected officials and staff.

The Dallas Street Choir, led by Dr. Jonathan Palant, opened the program with spirited performances of Put a Little Love in Your Heart and Love Train, setting a joyful the mood for the event.

The Stewpot Executive Director Brenda Snitzer welcomed close to 100 guests, followed by an invocation given by The Rev. Amos Disasa, Senior Pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Dallas.

Dallas County Commissioner Dr. Theresa Daniel congratulated The Stewpot and highlighted the strong partnership between the county and The Stewpot. Daniel then presented Snitzer with a proclamation.

Mayor Pro Tem Jesse Moreno also gave The Stewpot a proclamation from the City of Dallas and applauded the ongoing partnership between the two organizations.

Snitzer shared remarks about The Stewpots beginnings, growth and legacy of love in action.

The true heartbeat of our mission is in the quiet, everyday moments of service. One neighbor connecting with another. Serving a meal. Giving time and resources to make the way easier for someone who is struggling, Snitzer said. We see suffering every day at The Stewpot, but we also see joy, compassion and hope.

Sam Allen, Wood Street Worship Music Director at First Presbyterian Church, led the group in singing Happy Birthday as colorful streamers rained down in front of the stage.

This year, Dallas nonprofit The Stewpot, a mission of First Presbyterian Church of Dallas, celebrates 50 Years of Loving Our Neighbors and its long tradition of love in action. Hispanic 100 Latina Giving Circle at Texas Womens Foundation Grants $100K to Nonprofits

The Hispanic 100 (H100) Latina Giving Circle at Texas Womens Foundation awarded $100,000 in grants to 18 North Texas area nonprofits serving the needs of Latina women and girls in low- and moderate-income communities. The grants were given as part of the Latina Living Legend (LLL) fundraising event at the Vouv on October 2^nd honoring Alice Rodriguez as the 2025 Latina Living Legend and Aracely P. Muñoz as the 2025 Emerging Latina Award recipient. (See HERE for honorees).

The H100 Latina Giving Circle at Texas Womens Foundation was established in 2019 by the Hispanic 100 Network to further engage Latinas in philanthropy, and to expand resources for local organizations whose mission is to empower, educate and support Latinas across North Texas.
