Taco Bueno Launches Chimis for Change Campaign to Support Survivors of Domestic Violence

October 20-24, 100% donation of Cheesecake Chimi profits benefit programs to provide support

Taco Bueno is turning a sweet treat into something even sweeter with its upcoming Chimis for Change campaign in support of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October. From October 20 through 24, 100% of profits from the brands Cheesecake Chimis will be donated to support survivors of domestic violence in Texas and Oklahoma.

Guests can enjoy the dessert with two limited-time sauces Chocolate and Raspberry making it a delicious way to support an excellent cause.

This giveback effort is part of Tacos with a Purpose, Taco Buenos ongoing campaign to raise awareness and provide meaningful support for survivors. Since launching last year, the program has raised $560,329 to benefit two nonprofit partners: The Family Place in Texas and Palomar in Oklahoma. Together, these organizations provide essential services including emergency shelter, counseling, legal aid, and life skills programs that empower survivors and help families rebuild their lives.

Funding Hope, Making Impact

Since the inception of Tacos with a Purpose in 2024, Taco Bueno locations across Texas and Oklahoma have raised almost a half-million dollars$487,449 in support for The Family Place in Texas and Palomar in Oklahoma-- non-profit organizations providing important support to those experiencing domestic violence today.

The Family Place received $300,886, which provides more than 3,000 nights of safe shelter for familiesand their pets. As one of the only shelters in Texas with an on-site kennel, The Family Place ensures that no family member, including pets, is left behind in danger.
As one of the largest family violence service providers in Texas, The Family Place offers comprehensive, trauma-informed support to survivors of domestic abuse. From emergency shelter and counseling to legal aid and life skills programs, The Family Place empowers individuals and families to find safety, stability, and strength.
Palomar received $186,563, enabling the organization to provide over 2,100 emergency services to survivors. These vital resources include access to Palomars Comfort Café, long-term classes and recovery programs, emergency transportation, utility and rental assistance, Victim Protective Order support, and more.
With a mission to provide protection, hope, and healing, Palomar collaborates with numerous community agencies in Oklahoma City to offer wraparound services to victims of domestic violence and other forms of abuseserving more than 5,700 individuals in 2024 alone.

Tacos Making a Difference at HQ, Too

In addition to raising much-needed monetary support, Taco Bueno also works to provide resources, including phone numbers for hotlines where those experiencing domestic violence can receive trained assistance. Information on how to reach assistance appears in bathrooms and at points of sale, and Taco Bueno team members are trained in giving out hotline information.

Tacos are creating change across the company, too, as Taco Buenos parent company, Sun Holdings, took the opportunity to create a no-tolerance policy for violence in the workplace. In partnership with The Family Place, Sun Holdings launched a comprehensive workplace domestic violence policy aimed at protecting employees and supporting survivors across Taco Bueno and all of the companys brands.

With statistics showing that 96% of victims are harassed at work and 60% face job loss or are forced to quit due to abuse, the need for employer-driven action is clearyet 65% of companies still lack a plan. This policy will provide vital resources such as confidential reporting, flexible leave, safety planning and job protection, while training employees to recognize warning signs before violence escalates.

Freebirds World Burrito is calling on the community to come together for Texas through a special event, Burritos With a Purpose, aimed at helping those impacted by the recent flooding in Kerr County. On Friday, July 25, all burrito profits from all Freebirds locations will be donated directly to Kerr County flood relief efforts.

Seniors and Teens Most Forgotten During Holiday Season: Metrocrest Services Opens Holiday Store

Non-profit provides opportunity for parents to shop for their children and opportunity for senior citizens to feel remembered; store is a product of generosity of North Texas, and helps most vulnerable know we all care.

Metrocrest Services is opening a unique holiday store and it has a lot less to do with buying things than it does with giving. Through this unique holiday experience, North Texans play the role of Santa to those in need and thats more people than ever, as Metrocrest Services has experienced a 31% increase in the volume of clients it serves over the past 16 months.

Metrocrest Services has opened the holiday store through December 18 to invited clientele people who might have feared the seasons spirit had passed them by. In a year where many are hard-hit by rising rent and utility costs, as well as high food and medication prices, the holiday season can feel anything but bright when every day is a struggle. Stepping inside the Metrocrest Services Holiday Store, a brightly decorated wonderland of toys, clothing, household items and other donated gifts, its easy to think you might have been transported to the North Pole.

In the holiday store, parents and seniors can find many great gifts for their family members in need while having the dignity to shop for and select those gifts just like anyone else. The difference in this store? No money is exchanged for those gifts just smiles and hugs. Parents can choose items ranging from warm coats and winter accessories, including gloves and hats, to toys, bikes, books and more for their kiddos.

Clients can look around and shop, often with the help of a volunteer, with no money exchanged. This special initiative will serve more than 2,500 children and seniors this year with new gifts generously provided by donations to Metrocrest Services. There is an ongoing need for toys and other items to stock the store, and the community is invited to be involved in helping to stock it. Metrocrest Services maintains a wishlist of items to help ensure the store stays stocked.

"Metrocrest Services was a huge relief around the holidays, said Claudia, a local mother and client of Metrocrest Services who felt immense gratitude and relief by receiving assistance during the holiday season. I had a sudden loss of income and they helped all my four of my children with gifts."

"I visited the Metrocrest Services holiday store because this year is a little bit harder for me to be able to afford Christmas gifts for my kids. So I'm grateful to be able to come in and use this opportunity to get some help, said Riley, a client of Metrocrest Services who also visited the store last year.

"This has been the best Christmas I've had in a long time, said a local senior citizen who received a personalized senior gift basket through Metrocrest Services.

Seniors and Teens Often Forgotten

Among the hardest hit this year are North Texas senior citizens, who struggle to meet skyrocketing cost of living increases when on fixed incomes.

I was retired but with the economy the way it was, I found that I had to go back to work, said Patrice, a client of Metrocrest Services who reached out to the agency for assistance. I had more bills than money, and I needed help because Id been out of work for so long. The door was closed everywhere I went.

Metrocrest Services staff helped Patrice understand how her talents could be applied and assisted her with her resume and job coaching, and now shes back on the path to self-sufficiency. But for far too many seniors, they have to make difficult choices between things like medication or food. During the holiday season, this hits particularly hard, especially if they have no one else to help them or even to celebrate the season with them. Through Metrocrest Services seniors program, community members are creating special gift baskets full of essential food, household items and gifts for Metrocrest-area seniors in need.

Teenagers are another group often forgotten during the holidays, with many people choosing to buy or donate items for younger children.

Its sad to see a teenager who feels completely left out of holiday joy, said Hayden Austin, director of development with Metrocrest Services. The holiday season can be a very lonely time, and for teenagers who may already feel marginalized due to their familys daily struggles, this season can feel very alienating. We do all we can to support children of all ages in the families were honored to help, and we appreciate when people can help us make these kids holiday seasons bright.

Through its wrap-around services, Metrocrest Services is well-positioned to help area residents in need but this year, more than ever, the non-profit needs the help of the community.

Organized by the Lake Highlands Womens League, this annual event raises funds to support local schools and scholarships for Lake Highlands students.

The Lake Highlands Womens League will throw open the doors and welcome everyone to the 46th Annual Holiday Home Tour: Holiday in the Highlands, presented by Walne Family Holdings, on Friday, December 6, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. This beloved annual tradition is more than just the perfect way to get in the holiday spirit: Since its inception in 1970, Holiday in the Highlands has raised approximately $3.5 million to benefit Lake Highlands schools, community groups and college scholarships. Tickets are on sale now.

Four beautifully decorated homes in Lake Highlands will welcome guests to experience their unique spin on holiday magic. The charming, creative, eclectic architecture and home design in the northeastern Dallas neighborhood of Lake Highlands makes it the perfect locale to host a home tour. Visitors are delighted with ideas, inspiration and a healthy dose of the holiday spirit!

9311 Moss Circle Drive, the home of the
Allen family: This historic farmhouse built in
the 1930s by Harry S. Moss to give a bull he
purchased at the Texas State Fair room to roam. Known by their family as Moss Haven, the home was a reprieve from city life and was featured in Architectural Digest in January of 1958.
7737 Eagle Trail, the home of the Austin family: The horse stables across the street and the resident ostentation of peacocks drew the Austins to their unique lot on Eagle Trail in 2020. As you tour the home, be on the lookout for many peacock nods seamlessly incorporated into art, lamps, wallpaper and even hand towels. With a great appreciation for both family history and the great outdoors, this family has created a beautiful home to cherish for decades.

8728 Fenchurch, the home of the Blessing family: This family of six has created the perfect family home that pairs classic sophistication with boyish-rugged charm. 9617 Shadydale, the home of the Gray family: Mark and Maurie Gray own an architecture firm, M- Gray Architecture, and their talent and eye for detail is evident in every corner of their home. Oak carpentry and several pieces of art celebrate the oak tree, which has been a symbol of strength and stability in the Grays marriage: Mark proposed under an oak tree and they married under an oak tree at Mauries parents farm in Fredericksburg. A memorable Christmas spent in Sweden inspired a warm, rustic feeling they bring into their home when they decorate for the holidays.

Keep the holiday fun going with a stop at the Sip & Shop, presented by Volvo Dallas, at the Lake Highlands Womens League Marketplace at the KayCee Club, an event that complements the home tour by offering another way to support the Lake Highlands community. Visitors can shop for holiday treasures from 20 local vendors offering art, jewelry, clothing, food and other gifts while catching up with friends and enjoying a holiday cocktail. Admission is free for the Sip & Shop, which will take place at 10110 Shoreview Road in Dallas on Thursday, December 5, from 4 to 8 p.m.; and on Friday, December 6, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

You can also support the cause for the chance to win a great prize by entering the Lake Highlands Womens League Holiday in the Highlands Raffle. They lead an effort assisted by the Home Tour Committee and Finance Committee of volunteers from the Lake Highlands Womens League, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the Lake Highlands community for more than 50 years.

The holidays are a season of giving, and were grateful that this joy and spirit allows us to fund educational opportunities for our Lake Highlands High School seniors, Littlefield said. Seeing them receive their scholarships in the spring feels like the holidays all over again.

In 2023, the tour raised $215,000, which directly funded specific projects and services for 12 nonprofit organizations and 13 schools, and provided college scholarships to 33 exceptional Lake Highlands High School students. From supplies and technology upgrades at area schools to car seats for new mothers and summer reading initiatives at area libraries, the Lake Highlands Womens League heard and proudly responded to a wide range of impactful opportunities.

Annual Holiday Home Tour, Holiday in the Highlands, Set for December 6

Organized by the Lake Highlands Womens League, this annual event raises funds to support local schools and scholarships.

The Lake Highlands Womens League will throw open the doors and welcome everyone to the 46^th Annual Holiday Home Tour: Holiday in the Highlands, presented by Walne Family Holdings, on Friday, December 6, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. This beloved annual tradition is more than just the perfect way to get in the holiday spirit: Since its inception in 1970, Holiday in the Highlands has raised approximately $3.5 million to benefit Lake Highlands schools, community groups and college scholarships.

Attendees will enjoy beautiful holiday displays at four Lake Highlands homes:

9311 Moss Circle Drive, the home of the Allen family: This historic farmhouse built in the 1930s by Harry S. Moss to give a bull he purchased at the Texas State Fair room to roam. Known by their family as Moss Haven, the home was a reprieve from city life and was featured in Architectural Digest in January of 1958.

7737 Eagle Trail, the home of the Austin family: The horse stables across the street and the resident ostentation of peacocks drew the Austins to their unique lot on Eagle Trail in 2020. As you tour the home, be on the lookout for many peacock nods seamlessly incorporated into art, lamps, wallpaper and even hand towels. With a great appreciation for both family history and the great outdoors, this family has created a beautiful home to cherish for decades.

8728 Fenchurch, the home of the Blessing family: This family of six has created the perfect family home that pairs classic sophistication with boyish-rugged charm. Gathering areas for family and friends encourage interaction with an inviting feel while the homes flow works perfectly for a busy family with four growing boys. On display in the home is a charming and special collection of sketches by Lake Highlands resident and Allisons best friend, Becky Haas. Each sketch represents a home the Blessings have lived in along the way.

9617 Shadydale, the home of the Gray family: Mark and Maurie Gray own an architecture firm, M-Gray Architecture, and their talent and eye for detail is evident in every corner of their home. Oak carpentry and several pieces of art celebrate the oak tree, which has been a symbol of strength and stability in the Grays marriage: Mark proposed under an oak tree and they married under an oak tree at Mauries parents farm in Fredericksburg. A memorable Christmas spent in Sweden inspired a warm, rustic feeling they bring into their home when they decorate for the holidays.

Keep the holiday fun going with a stop at the Sip & Shop, presented by Volvo Dallas, at the Lake Highlands Womens League Marketplace at the KayCee Club, an event that complements the home tour by offering another way to support the Lake Highlands community. Visitors can shop for holiday treasures from 20 local vendors offering art, jewelry, clothing, food and other gifts while catching up with friends and enjoying a holiday cocktail. Admission is free for the Sip & Shop, which will take place at 10110 Shoreview Road in Dallas on Thursday, December 5, from 4 to 8 p.m.; and on Friday, December 6, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

You can also support the cause for the chance to win a great prize by entering the Lake Highlands Womens League Holiday in the Highlands Raffle. Non-profit Veteran Calvin Moore Tapped as COO of Metrocrest Services

Longtime, mission-oriented leader committed to providing services that empower individuals to lead independent lives

Calvin Moore, an experienced non-profit leader with a heart for serving others, has been named chief operating officer for Metrocrest Services, the award-winning social services agency on a mission to provide hope through programs that lead to self-sufficiency and foster independence.

Moore is honored to serve alongside the committed professionals and volunteers of Metrocrest Services in his new role as COO, which he began August 26.

The opportunity to work directly with programs that impact peoples lives is what attracted me to Metrocrest Services, Moore noted. My role as COO is to empower the great team thats already in place, coming alongside of them to enhance their work through operations and programming, serving as a sounding board and providing leadership. Together, we will find new ways to innovate, meeting a need that grows every day.

Moore, a Gulf Coast native, grew up on a farm in Mississippi, helping his family raise horses, grow their own food and sustain the family timber business. He attended University of Southern Mississippi, graduating with a bachelors in political science. He continued his education at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, earning a master's in finance and business administration with a concentration in non-profit management, as well as a masters of divinity in theology. Moore also has served his country as a soldier in the U.S. Army Reserves, specializing in both heavy construction and military intelligence.

"I always knew I wanted to spend my life in service to others," Moore said.

Professionally, Moore has a demonstrated history of advancing organizations as a dynamic and purposeful executive with experience in strategic leadership and growth. Previously, he has served as CEO of Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, president and CEO of Meals on Wheels of Metro Tulsa, director of Tulsa Community College Foundation and development director of Oral Roberts University.

Outside of his professional pursuits, Moore is an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys hiking, camping, fishing, snowboarding and chess. He is also a big fan of movies and loves to travel.

McLaren Enthusiasts gathered for first look of 2025 McLaren Artura Spider, first-ever high-performance hybrid convertible

McLaren Dallas made excellent use of the Summer Solstice, leveraging the most amount of daylight in a year to unveil the newest supercar from McLaren, the 2025 McLaren Artura Spider, at the Avondale Dealership. Enthusiasts gathered to witness the debut of this newest supercar at McLaren Dallas before it started on its North American tour.

McLaren Dallas was thrilled to provide this rare first look and witness our guests' exhilaration as they experienced the breathtaking McLaren Artura Spider. It's more than a car; it's a testament to innovation and luxury, designed to captivate hearts and minds, said Dave Cantu, director of marketing for Avondale Dealerships. As the Union Jack draping the vehicle was pulled back at the exclusive event, the new Artura Spider was revealed, adding a thrilling new dimension to McLarens lineup. The signature Pantheon doors were flung open and Dallas was transported to Goodwood, the home of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars in West Sussex, England, through Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Dallas, an Avondale Dealerships showroom graced with discerning guests last month. They took in the brands newly reimagined showroom at 5300 Lemmon Avenue in Dallas.

Reflecting the latest visual identity of the brand, the showroom exudes sophistication, contemporary luxury, and creativity, while incorporating innovative digital technology with an inviting and relaxing interior design. Located in a prominent location in the heart of Dallas, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Dallas now offers clients an immersive experience from the moment they step foot into the building: the front door is modelled on Rolls-Royces famous Pantheon grille and provides a discreet, tantalizing glimpse of what lies within.
