The Cambridge School of Dallas varsity boys basketball team captured the 2015 TAPPS 2A State basketball title on Saturday night at Glenrose High School in Glenrose, Texas, after beating the Christian Academy of San Antonio 52-37.  The high scorer in the game was senior Calvin Goldsmith, who scored 18 of his game-high 23 points in the second half to lead the Cambridge School of Dallas to the title.   Seniors Trent Gahm, Johnson Thweatt and Joel Truelson, each scored eight points in the winning effort.  The Cambridge defense forced 16 turnovers, with Goldsmith grabbing nine rebounds. 

Cambridge led 22-18 at the half, after scoring the final five points of the first half and never trailing again.  Goldsmith scored on a dunk to give Cambridge a 19-18 lead followed by  Johnson Thweatt with a 3-pointer at the first half buzzer.

The Christian Academy of San Antonio (27-2) was unable to score for almost three minutes to start the second half.  Cambridge scored 11 of the first 13 points in the third quarter.  In the fourth quarter, CASA went on a 10-0 run and cut the Cambridge lead to 39-35 with 5:40 left in the game.

Senior Goldsmith took over during the final stretch, and Cambridge closed the game on a 13-2 run.  Goldsmith scored 10 points in the final minutes, at one point scoring eight straight.

Seniors Gahm, Goldsmith and Thweatt were named to the 2015 All-Tournament team.

The team was coached by Armein "Coach K" Kirkland and Riggs Mayfield, both first-year coaches.  Coach Kirkland was voted Coach of the Year for TAPPS 2A,District 3. 

The team motto for the season was “Everyone on the Line." It had dual meaning.  One was a nod to how much Coach Kirkland (Coach "K") made the team run this season. According to players, they ran more this season than in all of their previous years combined. Secondly, the motto reminded the team that they were to play "team ball," meaning that every player was on the line for each other. Throughout the season, when one player wasn’t having a good game, another simply stepped up for him.  The Lions record for the season was 26-2.
