Our Redeemer Open House Week is November 9 – 13, with safely spaced, drop-in or scheduled tours from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm.

Take a peek at our loving, creative Early Childhood programs (age 1 – PK4) with flexible hours and times, small class sizes, and lots of fine arts and motor skill enrichment. Our children learn through the highly regarded “Frog Street” developmental curriculum as well as “One In Christ” for religion.

Kindergarten through 6th grade students thrive in an academic environment that strives to balance boundaries and grace, which includes:

  • Enrichment Strands to customize each students education
  • Strong STEAM, language and leadership and grit focus
  • Talented and caring teachers to equip each child to succeed
  • Chapel and faith-based learning

During these unusual times, our families appreciate our beautiful, 10-acre campus more than ever. It features lovely green spaces, including two playgrounds, garden, and soccer field as well as a regulation sized gym for plenty of space to move for children of all ages to be active and safe.

Wildcat sports teams compete through the Metro Athletic League in volleyball, soccer, basketball and track, and all students have both PE and recess daily.

ORLS also offers before and after care as well as holiday and summer options for its busy families.

Reservations for Open House Week are appreciated, but drop-ins are welcome.  CLICK HERE FOR EVENT WEBSITE

**Face coverings are required, and we will do a quick temp scan and a COVID question screen for our visitors. Please limit your group to 2 adults. We will look into classrooms rather than enter as we keep our students and visitors safe.

Join us as we welcome NASA Astronaut and author, Col. Jeffrey Williams, at Our Redeemer Feb. 2-3!  Having completed his fourth mission in 2016, Expedition 48 Commander Jeff Williams officially spent more time in space than any other U.S. astronaut. Williams has spent 534 days in space, making him first on the all-time NASA astronaut list. Williams, a native of Wisconsin was a Flight Engineer and lead spacewalker for STS-101 in 2000, Flight Engineer for Expedition 13 in 2005 and Expedition 21 in 2009, where he worked as Flight Engineer and then as commander for Expedition 22. Selected as an astronaut in 1996, he graduated first in the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School class 103 in 1993.

As a man of faith, he authored "The Works of His Hands" based on his six months aboard the International Space Station in 2006.  He orbited the earth more than 2,800 times and took more photographs of earth than any astronaut in history. Every shot contains lessons about God's creation.  Every view from the window of the Space Station contains countless vivid lessons about the meticulous goodness of divine providence, God's care for His creation, and His wisdom in ordering the universe. Colonel Williams has had the rare privilege of studying earth from heavens perspective.

Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and School will be hosting two separate events with Col. Williams:

Saturday, February 2
7pm: Presentation in the Sanctuary: “My Time aboard the International Space Station: A Million Foot View” (nursery available),
Reception/Book Signing in the Parlor @jeffrey williams

Sunday, February 3
8am & 10:45am: Worship Services

9:30am: Bible Class Presentation in the Sanctuary: “The Work of His Hands”

All are welcome to attend; Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and School is located at the corner of Park Lane and Boedeker at 7611 Park Lane in Dallas.

There is no cost for these events--please come and hear this remarkable story and see the beauty of the heavens!

Our Redeemer Lutheran School of Dallas is reaping the benefits of its upper elementary Latin studies.  Latin teachers Pastor Brent McGuire and Pastor Adam Douthwaite note that since moving from its optional Latin Club format to co-curricular classes in 2015, there has been great, measurable progress––and the awards to prove it!

In 2018, over 900 3rd- through 6th- grade students from both the United States and Australia took the Exploratory Latin Exam.  Administered by the American Classical League, the exam tests students’ mastery of over two hundred words in such areas as colors, numbers, body parts, and family names; their knowledge of Roman history, mythology, and ancient geography; and their ability to read and answer simple questions entirely in Latin.

Of the 33 students who tested from Our Redeemer this past school year, there were 4 Cum Laude recipients, 5 Magna Cum Laude recipients, and 2 Summa Cum Laude winners, including a fifth-grader who earned the Perfect Score Gold Medallion, a feat that only 36 out of the nation’s 940 accomplished.

These results augur well for future academic performance.  In the last four years, according to the “College-Bound Seniors––A Profile of SAT Program Test Takers” report, the mean Verbal SAT score for Latin students has been about 64 points higher than the national average.  In terms of verbal advantage, Latin beats all other languages studied, including second-place Chinese, whose students have outperformed the average by about 46 points.

Besides scores, what does Latin do for students at the Elementary level?  Lead Latin teacher Pastor Brent McGuire (who, as an undergraduate at Harvard, delivered the Latin Oration at Commencement Exercises in 1995) gives the following insights:

•             The study of Latin improves one’s ability to speak and write in English.  More than 60% of English words are derived from Latin.  The percentage is even higher for the technical vocabularies in fields such as medicine, biology, psychology, chemistry, pharmacology, astronomy, philosophy, religion, and law.

•             In an increasingly global age, Latin gives the student a foundation for all language study.  Ninety to ninety-five percent of Spanish, French, Italian, and Portuguese words come from Latin.  In fact, there are 800 million people in the world today who speak languages derived directly from Latin.  (Who says the Latin language is dead?)

•             Studying Latin increases brain power!  Through the effort and skill required to learn Latin, one becomes more observant, analytical, logical, accurate, and organized in one’s thinking

So, hooray to Latin!  Or, as the children in Our Redeemer’s Latin classes love to shout, "Euge (ay OO gay)!"

ORLS’ lovely ten-acre campus is located at 7611 Park Lane and Boedeker in Dallas, just across from NorthPark Center.  A nurturing, play-based Early Childhood program feeds into an outstanding student- specific Kindergarten through 6th grade, with small class sizes allowing for more individualized attention.

Hallmarks of an ORLS education include not only strong academics, but also a balance of effort and rest.  A balance of boundaries and grace; a balance of work and play, of “real world” and childhood. Students at Our Redeemer Lutheran School of Dallas work hard, but also play hard with both recess and PE for every child—every day. Degreed teachers and staff nurture and care for the whole child, not just their minds. They encourage working above level, but without the atmosphere of anxiety and pressure.  ORLS is proud of its diverse student population, welcoming children of all races, nationalities, and denominations. Tuition at ORLS is reasonably priced, due in part to the financial support of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.  Additionally, financial aid is available for qualified students.
