The Episcopal School of Dallas headmaster Stephen Swann, who founded the institution 38 years ago, will be leaving his position on Nov. 30, according to reports.

Swann announced last year that he was resigning, but it was reported that he was going to stay at the school until a new headmaster was selected.

An interim headmaster will be appointed to take over the position until a permanent candidate is chosen.

Swann's early departure is voluntary, and he will still oversee the school's endowment.

Last year, a jury ruled in favor of a former student, who had a civil suit against the school, and decided that ESD had to pay the student's family $9.2 million for allegedly not protecting her from having a relationship with a teacher and forcing her out of school after the situation was discovered. A settlement between the two parties was later reached, which was not disclosed to the public.
