Zach Guillot

Parish Episcopal School first grader Zach Guillot is starting his second round of chemotherapy on Friday, but he still needs a bone marrow donation from a stranger to help fight Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

The seven year old was first diagnosed with cancer in February 2010 but appeared to have beaten it after going through chemotherapy and getting a bone marrow transplant from his three-year-old brother. Guillot's family found out last month that the cancer came back.

A bone marrow drive was hosted at Parish Episcopal School's Midway Campus last weekend to help find a donor, but his family is still searching for a stranger who is a match.

The family is asking members of the community to get checked and see if they are a match. All it takes is a cheek swab to find out if you qualify as a donor, which requires having at least eight tissue characteristics out of a known 4,000 in common.

Anyone who is willing to check if they can donate bone marrow to Guillot should visit www.getswabbed.org. Donors must be 18 to 55 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health.
