Thomas Jefferson High School's varsity football team will be playing Lincoln High School at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at Loos Stadium. This matchup will be Thomas Jefferson's Annual Hall of Fame Game, and the school's 2012 Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees will be honored during a special ceremony before the game.

Here is information about the ceremony and Hall of Fame inductees, courtesy of the Thomas Jefferson Alumni Association:

"We will have a tailgate party in the parking lot before the game. People will begin to congregate at 5:00 PM. The Hamburger Man will be there cooking up a storm between 5.30 and 6.30 (a $10 donation is appreciated), and at 6:40 the Awards Ceremony begins. It will be over before game time, which is 7.30.  Grab your kids and your families, say hi to a ton of old friends, and let's honor this year's Hall of Fame Inductees.

The 2012 Inductees are:
    * 1958 Football Team  
    * 1965 Basketball Team
    * Tim Huffman, Class of 1977   
    * Jimmy Ellington, Class of 1962

1958 City Championship Football
The 1958 Thomas Jefferson Rebels were the North Zone Champions of the City of Dallas and defeated Sunset 20 to 0 in the city championship game to become the 1958 Dallas City Champions.  The team compiled a record of 9 wins 2 losses for the season. In the first game of the year TJ defeated Highland Park, the prior year state champs, 12-6. The Rebels won victories over traditional powers Sunset, South Oak Cliff, North Dallas, Woodrow Wilson and Samuell.

The team was known for its outstanding linemen and stout defense. The Rebels held every opponent to no more than one touchdown per game. The team recorded 3 shutouts and was ranked in the top ten high school teams in Texas for the entire regular season with their highest weekly ranking being number 4.

Today the team members are spread out across the US with players as far away as California, New Mexico, Illinois and Oklahoma.

1964-65 State Finalist Basketball team
Of all the TJ teams that made it to Austin, this one was probably the smallest in size. Andy Cargile was the starting center at 6' 2 1/2". The Rebels defeated El Paso in the semifinals to reach the State championship game where they lost to Houston Jones, which featured future SWC stars Lynn Phillips and Gene Phillips TJ finished the season with a record of 34-4.
Point Guard Larry Smith was named 3rd team All State, All State Tourney team, All City and All City MVP. Larry went on to play at Texas. Jim Burchfield was named 2nd team All City and later played at Kilgore College. Richard Scallorn was named to the All State Tourney team and honorable mention All City. After TJ, Richard played at Baylor. Andy Cargile was named honorable mention All City and later played at East Texas State. In 1975, he became the basketball coach at TJ. Two years ago he retired as principal of Euless Trinity High School. Coach Barry Dowd would coach at TJ one more season before becoming the basketball coach at Arlington State. In 1976, he became the top assistant for Abe Lemons at Texas. He was named the basketball coach at East Tennessee State in 1982 and Athletic Director at Arkansas St. in 1996.

Tim Huffman
An All-American lineman at Thomas Jefferson and later at Notre Dame, Tim was a three year starter at Notre Dame and played the 1978 Cotton Bowl alongside his brother Dave who was member of our inaugural TJ athletic hall of Fame induction class in 2006. In1981 Tim was drafted by the Green Bay Packers where he played with distinction for five seasons.

Jimmy Ellington
Jimmy played football and ran track at TJ and in 1960 ran the 3rd leg of the TJ state runner up mile relay team, later as a senior in 1962 Jimmy won the Open 440 in 47.7 and teamed with Mike Reid, Bruce Teagarden and Steve Langham to win the Mile relay in a State Record time of 3:16.1. In his career at Rice University Jimmy won two Southwest Conference championships in the mile relay and in May of 1966 Captain Ellington led Rice to a mile relay time of 3:06.1 the fastest college time ever run in Texas to that date.

Jimmy had a 29 year career  in the Navy as an officer and helicopter pilot. He commanded two helicopter squadrons and the Navy Weapons school and was awarded the Legion of Merit before retiring in 1996 at the rank of Navy Captain
