Shelton School will offer a free workshop, Early Signs of Learning Differences, Wednesday, January 20, 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Presented by Dr. Joyce Pickering, Shelton’s executive director emerita, and Amy Kelton, assistant head of Shelton’s Lower and Upper Elementary divisions, the workshop is for parents, teachers and other professionals.  The workshop takes place on campus at 15720 Hillcrest Road, Dallas.  Topics include: typical child development from birth to age 6, early signs of learning differences and how to respond, and educational approaches that help all children.  Also discussed will be strategies that enhance order and independence, promote social skills, encourage critical thinking, offer oral language development, and improve gross and fine motor skills.

Shelton School is a national demonstration and resource center for those working with learning-different (LD) students pre-school through grade 12.  Now celebrating its 40th anniversary, Shelton serves intelligent children with learning differences.  It is the largest independent school worldwide for LD students, and its goal is to change the way people think about learning differences.
