Metrocrest Services Food Pantry serves meals

National Toilet Paper Day is August 26, so don’t get left behind!

The pandemic taught many of us what a precious commodity toilet paper truly is and, for most of us, the lack of TP is merely an unpleasant memory. But many North Texans—particularly seniors—on a regular basis have to make an unfortunate choice between purchasing toilet paper or food, buying medications or paying an electricity bill. No one should have to make this choice. To help those in need, Metrocrest Services has launched Let’s Roll, a drive to raise 100,000 rolls of toilet paper before August 26, National Toilet Paper Day.

“Basic necessities seem like such small things—until you don’t have them,” said Tracy Eubanks, CEO of Metrocrest Services. “The unfortunate reality is that too many people in our community have to make tough choices like this on a daily basis. We are confident that North Texas can help our friends and neighbors in need by giving generously, as they always do.”

In 2020, the Metrocrest Services Food Pantry provided 25,638 neighbors with food and hygiene supplies, including toilet paper. Every year, toilet paper is one of the most expensive items for the pantry to purchase, so donations of toilet paper are critical to allowing the non-profit agency to fund other community needs. Metrocrest Services estimates that 100,000 rolls will supply its food pantry with enough toilet paper for one year.

To be part of the Let’s Roll Toilet Paper Drive and have your donation count toward the 100,000 rolls goal, simply drop donations of packaged toilet paper off at Metrocrest Services, at 13801 Hutton Drive, suite 150, in Farmers Branch, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, or 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. noon on Saturday. Pick-up is available for large donation drives by calling (469) 317-2556 for details and reservations.

Businesses, associations and individuals are already stepping up, hosting toilet paper donation drives both in-person or virtually by setting up fundraisers to purchase toilet paper through metrocrestservices.causevox.com, where it’s easy to click “Join the Campaign” to set up a fundraiser and help neighbors in need.

“As a company that’s ingrained in the community, it's important to show our support to the community members,” said Dallas Cothrum, CEO of Masterplan.  “This is an easy way to get involved and make an impact to someone’s daily life.”

"When we heard that Metrocrest Services was meeting a need for toilet paper, PartnerSource was honored to rally our employees and colleagues to help. Supporting the excellent work of Metrocrest Services is a way that our Addison-based business can help the community," said Jennifer Hurless, president of PartnerSource.

Metrocrest Services encourages everyone to get their friends, neighbors and networks involved in the drive by hosting their own fundraisers and getting creative. Now in its 50thanniversary year, the need that Metrocrest Services faces is greater than ever. Exacerbated by the ongoing pandemic and the deadly winter storm, this year finds North Texans in need in greater numbers than the non-profit agency has ever seen as it helps with rent, food, utilities, jobs and more in its mission to help end poverty and decrease inequities. The non-profit estimates that needs of its clientele have more than doubled in the past year, with the agency serving 28,066 clients in 2020, an increase of 68 percent over previous years.
