It was announced on Tuesday that West Nile has claimed the life of another Dallas County resident, marking the eighth death in the area because of the virus this season.

Dallas County Health and Human Services confirmed that a North Dallas resident, who lived in the 75229 zip code, which covers a portion of Preston Hollow, died after contracting West Nile.

Though information about the victim was not released by the City of Dallas, it has been reported that the victim was a "woman in her 90s." Already this season, 130 human cases of West Nile have been recorded in Dallas County.

The "Ds" to Avoiding West Nile

  • Apply insect repellent that has "DEET"
  • Make sure to drain standing water near your residence
  • Be sure to dress in clothing that is long, loose and light-colored
  • Do not forget to apply bug spray and wear protective clothing from dusk to dawn
