Due to popular demand, Fellowship for Performing Arts, the producers of Further Up & Further In, have added two additional performances of the world premiere of the new theatrical experience starring Max McLean, featuring the wit and wisdom of C.S. Lewis. Added performances include Tuesday, October 18th and Wednesday October 19th, tickets are available for purchase here.

After three years of development, C.S. Lewis On Stage: Further Up & Further In is currently running at the Eisemann Center, 2351 Performance Dr., Richardson, TX 75082-4332 through Oct. 23, 2022.

“When Lewis moved from vigorous debunker to believer, it wasn’t obvious he would become the most influential Christian writer of the past hundred years,” said actor and playwright Max McLean. “Why did the BBC give Lewis a national audience to deliver unprecedently popular radio talks that would become Mere Christianity? How did Hitler’s devious charm influence the writing of The Screwtape Letters? What made Lewis such an effective apologist/evangelist to skeptics? Was it prayer? His expectation of the second coming? Or was it his deep longing for Heaven that also inspired much of his writing including Narnia and The Great Divorce?”

Using Lewis’ own words, Further Up & Further In explores these questions and more through a dazzling, state-of-the-art theatrical experience of startling imagery, evocative music and Lewis’ amazing storytelling. Further Up & Further In is a standalone production that builds on the story of Lewis’ conversion as a young man told in the nationwide hit play C.S. Lewis On Stage: The Most Reluctant Convert.

The award-winning creative team is led by Kelly Tighe, set design (National Tour, Cats), John Gromada’s original score (Broadway, Tony Nomination, The Trip to Bountiful), Harry Feiner’s visual imagery (Off Broadway, Paradise Lost) and Geoffrey Fishburn’s lighting (Off Broadway, Martin Luther on Trial), all under the direction of Ken Denison (The Lion King, associate producer).

Founded by Artistic Director Max McLean, Fellowship for Performing Arts is a New York City-based production company whose mission is to produce theatre and film from a Christian worldview to engage a diverse audience. In addition to annual seasons at Theatre Row in New York City, it produces coast-to-coast tours in both major performing arts venues and university theatres. McLean is the 2022 recipient of the C.S. Lewis Foundation Award for Distinguished Lifetime Contributions in Faith and Dramatic Arts.

FPA also produced the hit film The Most Reluctant Convert: The Untold Story of C.S. Lewis, which is available to stream now on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Google Play and YouTube, as well as to purchase on DVD and Blu-ray.

The month of October is often known as Rocktober in education due to the long stretch of school days leading up to the holiday season.  During this time period teachers and students often begin to feel the early signs of burnout and feeling overwhelmed.  Uplift Education took a proactive approach last school year by getting input from staff and families about adding a fall break to help give teachers an opportunity to rest and renew before launching into the second quarter of the school year. This staff and student vacation time is to stay committed to the network’s commitment to prioritizing student and staff well-being.  The new fall break added this year to the school calendar serves to recognize the strain the last two years have placed on schools, and how school networks are dealing with calls to put more emphasis on mental health supports and social-emotional learning.

“We’ve had a lot of conversations over the last year talking about our academic calendar, and specifically one of the requests that were shared with us from our survey to parents was to look at a fall break as part of this conversation,” Dr. Washington, President of Uplift said.

It is widely known that there is a relationship between academic performance and well-being, the better your health is, the better your academic performance.

Uplift’s school year has gotten off to a strong start for its 23,000+ students.  The network has enjoyed seeing its students show up each day excited to learn and deeply engaging in their studies. “Students have grown academically so much over the last ten weeks, and the network looks forward to seeing them meet or exceed grade-level expectations at the end of the school year and get the nation back from the learning loss that hit everyone during the pandemic,” Dr. Washington said.

Uplift intentionally prioritizes student and teacher well-being. They have also heard overwhelmingly from their staff that they need more opportunities to refuel and to plan during the school year to keep up with the growing demands of being a teacher.

While students will receive a full week off, Uplift teachers and staff will return to campus after a three-day break and engage in two full days of training and planning before returning the following week. Uplift is hopeful that well-deserved rest, renewal, and planning time will ensure that their teachers are ready to jump-start the second quarter of learning on a positive and impactful note. We deeply appreciate our staff, students, families, and communities’ partnership and commitment to Uplift Education.
